POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Aged Care Chef to lead the kitchen operations at our 42-resident aged care facility. You will be responsible for planning, preparing and cooking all meals for residents with varying dietary and nutritional requirements. This is a hands-on role working within a small, tight-knit team in a supportive environment.
THE ROLE
Your responsibilities will include
- Preparing and cooking all breakfast, main meals, desserts, soups and evening meals daily
- Managing multiple dining services across three dining areas (catering serves one area; care staff serve the other two)
- Liaising directly with care staff to understand individual resident dietary requirements and restrictions
- Ensuring all dinner items are fully cooked and placed in the hotbox before end of shift (15:30)
- Providing clear, written instructions to the kitchenhand for tasks such as deep frying chips and other fried items, with communication documented in the comms book
- Recording all food safety checks, temperatures, cleaning procedures, stock deliveries and cook-chill records on the Operandio digital system
- Working confidently with the Kafoodle resident meal ordering system to understand daily meal requirements and kitchen priorities
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen organisation
MEAL SCHEDULE
- Hot breakfast service (Wednesday & Thursday)
- Morning tea
- Two main meals daily
- Dessert
- Soup (dinner service)
- Evening meal & dessert
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or abov
- Proven experience as a chef or cook in aged care, hospitality or institutional catering
- Understanding of nutrition, texture modification and therapeutic diets
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple meal services simultaneously
- Clear communication and the ability to delegate effectively
- Flexibility and a team-oriented approach to working with care staff and support team
- Current food safety certification
- Proficiency (or willingness to learn) with digital systems
