This role sits within a Commonwealth government body responsible for administering national standards that regulate the energy efficiency of household and commercial appliances and equipment.

The scheme operates under Commonwealth legislation, in partnership with every state and territory and New Zealand, and has registered more than 27,000 products since 2019 alone.

Independent audit findings estimate it has saved Australian households and businesses between $12 billion and $18 billion in avoided energy costs since it began in 2012.

The Opportunity

This APS5 role sits in a small implementation team responsible for the day-to-day administration of a national product registration scheme.

You'll manage a shared enquiries mailbox, working through emails from manufacturers, retailers and members of the public about product registrations, labelling and account access.

Complex or sensitive enquiries are worked through with the Assistant Director rather than left for you to resolve alone, and during peak periods you'll also assist with assessing product registration applications against legislative requirements.

You will also have

- The opportunity to research legislation and technical guidance to prepare accurate, well-supported responses, rather than relying on scripted answers

- Exposure to product registration assessment work during peak periods, building experience in regulatory decision-making

The Role As an APS5 Enquiries Officer, you will be:

- Managing the Energy Rating enquiries mailbox, assigning enquiries, escalating priority matters, and maintaining accurate records
- Investigating enquiries and prepare accurate, risk-based responses for consultation and clearance




- Building a strong working knowledge of the Energy Rating Product Registration system to resolve account-related enquiries’
- Triaging strong working knowledge of the Energy Rating Product Registration system to resolve account-related enquiries
- Maintaining the enquiries tracker so records stay accurate and up to date for reporting
- Contributing to a cooperative and high-performing team culture

You’ll bring

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or regulatory information clearly
- Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, and the initiative to properly investigate an enquiry rather than guess at an answer
- High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when handling registration and compliance matters
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines, including during peak assessment periods
- Comfort working independently day to day, while staying closely connected to a small team
- The ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance, or hold one already
- A qualification in public administration, engineering, energy or a related field

Salary / Rate

- $60/hr – $65/hr + Super
- 12-month labour hire contract with a possible 12-month extension
- Canberra-based with flexible and work from home arrangements available in agreement with your supervisor
