The Chance

We are seeking an experienced Asset Engineer / Asset Manager to lead and deliver asset management documentation and improvement work for our water, wastewater and irrigation clients. Based in either our Shepparton or Melbourne office, you will be the technical author and lead for Asset Class Plans and Asset Management Improvement Plans, working directly with client asset, operations and maintenance teams.

This is a hands-on, writing-intensive role for someone who enjoys turning asset data, condition information and operational insight into clear, defensible plans that drive investment and maintenance decisions.

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare, write and review Asset Class Plans for water, wastewater and irrigation asset classes (e.g. pumps, switchboards and VSDs, pipelines, treatment plant assets, storages, mechanical and electrical equipment).





· Develop Asset Management Improvement Plans, including maturity assessments, gap analysis, prioritised improvement actions, roadmaps and implementation support.

· Undertake asset condition, criticality, risk and lifecycle analysis to inform renewal, maintenance and capital investment strategies.

· Develop maintenance strategies and plans (preventive, predictive and corrective), including maintenance task and frequency optimisation.

· Analyse asset data and registers, identify data gaps, and recommend improvements to asset information, hierarchies and systems.

· Support development of Strategic Asset Management Plans, asset policies, levels of service and lifecycle cost models.

· Prepare technical reports, business case inputs and options assessments that link asset need to investment justification.

· Engage and workshop with client asset, operations and maintenance personnel, and present findings to technical and executive audiences.

· Support EDA's asset management proposals and tenders, and mentor junior engineers.

About You

Essential

· Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or related) or an equivalent asset management discipline.

· Minimum 5 years' experience in asset management or asset engineering, ideally within water, wastewater, irrigation or utility infrastructure.

· Demonstrated experience writing Asset Class Plans and Asset Management Improvement Plans (or comparable asset strategy documentation) — writing samples or examples will be discussed at interview.

· Sound working knowledge of ISO 55000/55001 principles and asset lifecycle management practice.

· Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce client-ready documentation with minimal rework.





· Competence in asset data analysis (Excel and asset management or EAM/CMMS systems such as Maximo, SAP PM, Assetic or similar).

· Australian work rights, a current driver's licence, and willingness to travel to client sites and between offices as required.

Desirable

· Experience working with Victorian water corporations or regional water authorities.

· Familiarity with regulatory and funding frameworks relevant to water utilities (e.g. ESC price submissions, Water Plan development).

· Experience with criticality and risk frameworks, RCM/FMECA, and reliability engineering.

· Exposure to business case development and government investment approval processes.

· Consulting experience and comfort managing multiple client assignments concurrently.
