This is an exciting new opportunity to lead an essential cross functional workstream as CEFC uplifts its information, data and AI governance and process maturity. As the organisation continues to grow, this role will help ensure our governance settings keep pace with emerging tech, our risk profile and our increasingly diverse role in Australia’s transition to net zero.

Reporting to the Director, Operational Effectiveness, this role will help translate legislative, policy, risk and assurance requirements into practical frameworks and embedded controls that enable effective and safe work; with evolving AI technology and information governance practice as key facilitators of innovation and impact.

The role is focused on making information assets more discoverable, trusted and defensible. You will bring deep subject matter expertise across information governance, records management, privacy, data governance and AI governance, while partnering closely with Legal, Risk and Compliance, ICT, Cyber Security and teams across the business.

This is not an IT transformation, technology selection or service delivery role. ICT will own technology delivery. This role will set the governance guardrails for information and data management, as well as become a key stakeholder in decisions on how automation and AI are used across CEFC. The focus is on ensuring our systems and workflows are secure, compliant, auditable and proportionate, while remaining practical for our people and the organisation’s needs.

The role you will play

As Associate Director, Data, Information and AI Governance , you will:

- Execute, maintain and uplift CEFC’s enterprise Information, Data and AI Governance Frameworks.
- Lead the operationalisation and uplift of CEFC’s Records Authority, ensuring it reflects CEFC’s scale, digital footprint, operating model and risk profile.




- Define practical governance standards and requirements across information, data quality, metadata, classification, retention, disposal, handling, labelling and disclosure.
- Embed a prospective, risk-based approach to information lifecycle management, ensuring information is created, retained, retrieved and disposed of in a defensible and auditable way.
- Strengthen CEFC’s digital recordkeeping capability in line with the Archives Act, National Archives expectations, Normal Administrative Practice principles and related government requirements. Support Legal and Operational Risk and Compliance in meeting obligations under the Privacy Act, FOI Act, Archives Act and related policy requirements.
- Embed privacy by design, security by design and AI by design principles into systems, workflows, technology use cases and business processes.
- Design and maintain governance risk and asset registers, controls, assurance activities, inventories and reporting metrics.
- Partner with ICT, Cyber Security and business teams to ensure governance requirements are integrated into application design, data models, automation, AI tools and platform configurations.
- Support vendor selection and implementation activity to ensure tools meet CEFC’s governance, security, privacy and compliance requirements.
- Deliver training and uplift activities that build information stewardship, records awareness, privacy awareness and responsible AI use across CEFC.
- Contribute to broader operational effectiveness initiatives, including process design, workflow embedding and governance uplift beyond the information and AI domains.

To be successful in this role you will bring

- Demonstrated experience in information governance, data governance, records management, privacy, risk or related governance disciplines, ideally gained in a government aligned, financial services, investment, infrastructure or otherwise regulated and/or compliance driven environment.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislative and policy obligations, including the Privacy Act, FOI Act, Archives Act and National Archives expectations.
- Experience designing or implementing practical governance frameworks, controls, standards, registers, workflows or assurance processes.
- A strong understanding of digital recordkeeping, information lifecycle management,



security classification, data protection, metadata, retention and disposal.
- Exposure to automation, AI enabled tools or responsible technology governance, particularly where information quality, classification, security and auditability are critical.
- The ability to translate complex legal, regulatory, risk and technical requirements into clear, proportionate and usable controls for the business.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to partner across Legal, Risk, Compliance, ICT, Cyber Security and business teams.
- Sound judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to balance risk, usability, proportionality and operational impact.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify core issues, assess trade-offs and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical or governance concepts to varied audiences.
- Experience leading process improvement, operational uplift or change initiatives across a complex organisation.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in information management, records management, information systems, law, cybersecurity, data governance, digital transformation or related field(s).
- Relevant certifications or learning completed in information governance, records management, privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance or responsible technology will be highly regarded.
