We’re looking for a kind‑hearted volunteer who speaks Italian to share meaningful time with a lovely older woman living in Ryde. Our client is a 90‑year‑old woman who lives at home with her husband. She experiences short‑term memory loss and has limited mobility, so visits are all about relaxed, unhurried time together in the comfort of her home.

There’s no pressure for outings — just companionship, conversation, and connection. She would truly love the company of someone who can speak Italian with her, helping her reconnect with familiar language, culture, and memories. This might look like sharing stories, enjoying a friendly chat, or even listening to Italian music together.

Her husband may also join in at times, making visits feel warm and inclusive. We’re hoping to connect with someone who is patient, friendly, and comfortable spending time with older adults. Weekly or Fortnightly visits welcome.

Fluent Italian/conversational skills Sometimes, the simplest moments — a familiar language spoken with kindness — can mean the world.

Your impact Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

Requirements

18 years or older • National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare • One hour visits for 6 months or longer. We'd be happy to discuss a suitable time on a weekday between 9am and before 5pm.
