Legal Counsel (Part-Time 0.6) | 9-Month Contract
Hobart, Tasmania (must reside in Tasmania for the duration of the contract)
Are you a lawyer looking for a diverse in-house role that combines corporate governance, compliance and company secretariat responsibilities?
Our client, a large and highly regarded organisation operating within a highly regulated environment, is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team on a part-time (0.6 FTE), 9-month contract basis.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, this role offers exposure to governance, compliance and corporate advisory matters while supporting key business objectives and organisational decision-making.
About the Role
You will provide practical and commercially focused advice across a broad range of corporate governance and compliance matters, while supporting company secretariat functions and helping drive governance best practice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice on corporate governance, compliance and statutory obligations.
- Supporting the review and implementation of governance and compliance frameworks.
- Identifying and managing compliance and governance risks.
- Assisting with company secretariat activities, including reviewing Board and Committee papers and preparing meeting minutes.
- Supporting stakeholder engagement with executives, directors, regulators and government bodies.
- Delivering governance and compliance training across the business.
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and recommending governance improvements.
- Assisting with statutory reporting and corporate compliance obligations.
- Supporting shareholder and broader governance-related activities.
About You To be successful, you will possess:
- A Law degree and a current or eligible practising certificate for Tasmania.
- 2+ years' PAE.
- Experience in corporate governance, compliance, corporate advisory or regulatory law.
- Robust understanding of governance frameworks and compliance obligations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and executives.
- High attention to detail, discretion and professionalism.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to work.
