Purpose of the Role

The Landscape Gardener is responsible for the construction, establishment and maintenance of residential and commercial landscapes. The role involves the installation of hard and soft landscaping elements, operation of landscaping machinery and equipment, horticultural maintenance, irrigation works and contributing to the successful delivery of landscape projects.

Position Overview

This is a full-time ongoing position involving both landscape construction and landscape maintenance works. The role is integral to the delivery of CMC Landscapes' residential and commercial landscaping projects and forms an important part of the company's ongoing workforce requirements. The position requires practical landscaping skills, operation of plant and equipment, and the ability to undertake a broad range of landscape construction and horticultural maintenance activities.

Main Tasks - Landscape Construction

Review relevant drawings & plans, select suitable materials & plants, and schedule landscape construction

Carry out site preparation and set out works for landscape construction projects.

Install paving, pathways, garden edging and retaining walls.

Install concrete pathways, slabs and feature concrete elements.

Install hardscape landscaping elements in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Prepare garden beds and planting areas.

Install turf, topsoil, mulch, plants and other soft landscaping elements.

Install and maintain irrigation systems.

Landscape Maintenance

Perform lawn mowing, edging and general turf maintenance.

Carry out hedging,



pruning and detailing of shrubs and trees.

Undertake chemical and manual weed control.

Apply fertilisers, soil conditioners and pest control treatments as required.

Maintain garden beds, plants and landscaped areas to a high standard. Perform minor tree maintenance, including the removal of limbs from ground level and shaping branches using chainsaws and handsaws.

Operate and maintain landscaping machinery and equipment including power tools, chainsaws, hedgers, whipper snippers, blowers, ride-on mowers, excavators and skid steer loaders.

Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of tools, machinery and equipment.

Identify equipment faults and report maintenance requirements.

Workplace Health & Safety

Follow safe work practices and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.

Identify, report and manage hazards and risks on site.

Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment.

The above duties are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time to meet the operational requirements of the business.

Represent CMC Landscapes professionally on client sites.





Relevant landscaping or horticultural qualifications and/or at least 3 years of proven industry experience as Landscape Gardener

Physically fit and capable of performing manual outdoor work

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Landscape Construction & Maintenance: Ability to undertake landscape construction and maintenance activities including paving, planting, turf installation, irrigation works, pruning, hedging and general garden maintenance.

Plant & Equipment Operation: Competent in the safe operation and maintenance of landscaping machinery and equipment including power tools, chainsaws, hedgers, whipper snippers, blowers, ride-on mowers, excavators and skid steer loaders.

Workplace Health & Safety: Understanding of secure work practices and the ability to identify, report and manage workplace hazards in accordance with company procedures.

Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, clients and subcontractors, and to follow verbal and written instructions.

Attention to Detail: Ability to complete work to a high standard, ensuring quality workmanship and presentation across all landscaping projects.

Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team while contributing positively to workplace culture and project outcomes.

Time Management: Ability to organise and prioritise tasks, meet project deadlines and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
