Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is seeking a Compliance Specialist to join our Legal, Risk & Governance team. This is an exciting opportunity for a compliance professional who thrives in a regulated environment and enjoys partnering with stakeholders to ensure strong governance, effective risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Supporting both the Legal and Risk & Compliance functions, you will play a key role in maintaining VRC’s compliance frameworks, supporting assurance activities, and providing practical legal and regulatory guidance that helps the organisation operate confidently and responsibly.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Risk & Governance, you will support the delivery of VRC’s compliance, governance and risk management activities across a broad range of regulatory obligations.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to maintain compliance programs, support regulatory engagement, contribute to governance reporting, and assist with legal and contractual matters. This is a diverse role offering exposure to regulatory compliance, risk management, governance and legal advisory work within one of Australia’s most iconic sporting and entertainment organisations.
What you’ll be responsible for
Compliance & Risk
- Maintain and update VRC’s regulatory obligations registers across key compliance domains including AML/CTF, gambling, privacy, liquor licensing, workplace health and safety, environmental and related regulatory requirements
- Support the delivery of second-line assurance activities, including testing programs, reviews and documentation of findings
- Assist with regulatory submissions, audit responses and engagement materials for relevant regulators and authorities
- Support the preparation of compliance, risk and governance reporting for the Board, Audit & Risk Management Committee and Executive Leadership Team
- Coordinate with business stakeholders to maintain risk registers and monitor control effectiveness
Legal Support
- Review, draft and provide advice on a variety of commercial contracts and agreements
- Provide practical legal and regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders
- Support the development, review and maintenance of policies and procedures across regulated areas
- Assist with legal documentation, governance matters and business projects as required
Governance & Assurance
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of VRC’s compliance and governance frameworks
- Assist in monitoring regulatory developments and emerging compliance obligations
- Support action tracking and remediation activities arising from audits, assurance reviews and regulatory engagements
- Promote a strong compliance culture through collaboration, education and stakeholder engagement
What your background includes
- 2–4 years' experience in a compliance, legal, regulatory or risk-related role
- Experience working with one or more regulatory frameworks such as AML/CTF, privacy, gambling regulation, liquor licensing or workplace health and safety
- Strong contract, policy and business writing skills
- Ability to interpret legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business guidance
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities
Highly regarded
- Admission or eligibility for admission as a lawyer in Victoria
- Experience in hospitality, sports, gaming,
entertainment, venue operations or other regulated industries
- Exposure to second-line assurance, internal audit or governance activities
- Experience working with regulatory bodies such as AUSTRAC, VGCCC, LCV, WorkSafe or OAIC
- Familiarity with governance, risk and compliance systems or obligations management platforms
