About Us
Prime Mining specialises in supplying the mining industry with high calibre professionals. With clients across Australia and internationally, we take pride in our team of some of the industry's best mining professionals.
From our humble origins as a small band of mining professionals in 2011, we have built a proven track record of supporting our team and our clients, growing into one of Australia's leading technical consultancies. Our client base covers the large and medium mining companies across the country, and we hold hard to our reputation for quality people and industry leading remuneration.
We keep our overheads low and we work directly with our people, which is how we pay above market. We also offer a range of remuneration options, working with each person to get the best result for their situation, including assistance setting up ABN company structures.
We have two civil roles open on one of the largest tailings dam expansions currently under way in Australia, on site in Central NSW. The first is a Package Manager with a civil background at $320k, the second is a Lead Civil Engineer working to them at $250k. Both packages are inclusive of super and both run for years, not months.
The Roles
Both roles sit inside the owner's team on a tailings dam expansion in Central NSW and work as a pair. The Package Manager sets direction and holds the approvals. The Lead Civil Engineer carries the day to day workload that keeps the civil scope moving. Between them they own the civil package from design through to construction handover.
The Package Manager reports to the Engineering Manager and is the person who protects design intent. When schedule pressure builds and someone suggests a workaround, you are the one who holds the line and takes it back through the process. You will run the stage gate process, keeping documentation, approvals and dam governance requirements in order so designs move cleanly through review and out to the Engineer of Record.
You will manage the interface with the EPCM designers and the construction contractor, run constructability reviews before drawings go out for construction, and get engineers into the field to verify what was designed against what is being built. You will own the Basis of Design and make sure supplier scopes carry the client requirements, geotechnical data, survey information and regulatory constraints. The commercial side sits with you as well, covering man hours, scope changes, estimates,
project change notices and delegation of authority approvals before any work starts, along with scopes of work, bills of quantities and estimator input on design maturity when funding requests go up.
The Lead Civil Engineer reports to the Package Manager and works close to construction. You will review EPCM design deliverables and track them through to issue for construction, chase down requests for information before they turn into delays, and sit in constructability reviews with the contractor. Out in the field you will verify that what is being built matches what was designed, work through inspection and test plans with QA, and pick up issues early rather than at handover.
Construction work packages, temporary works such as haul roads and light vehicle roads, and site records all pass through your hands. You will also support the Package Manager commercially by pulling together material take offs, helping prepare scopes of work and bills of quantities, tracking scope changes and keeping progress reporting current.
Both roles run on a 12/9 roster with FIFO from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra, or DIDO for anyone living around Orange or Bathurst. Time in the Brisbane office with the design team is available and encouraged in the early months while you build relationships across the project. All travel, accommodation and associated expenses are fully covered.
To Be Considered You Must Meet the Following Criteria
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- For the Package Manager, substantial experience managing engineering delivery from design through to construction on mining or heavy civil projects, including time on the owner's side managing EPCM designers and construction contractors.
- For the Lead Civil Engineer, around 5 years or more of civil engineering experience across design or construction delivery on mining, heavy civil or bulk earthworks projects.
- Working knowledge of construction work packages, inspection and test plans and field verification.
- Ability to read and interrogate design deliverables and pick up issues before they reach site.
- Demonstrated ability to work within stage gated processes and meet regulatory or dam governance requirements.
- Exposure to commercial administration covering estimates, scope changes, project change notices and delegation of authority approvals, with full competence expected at the Package Manager level.
- Experience producing Basis of Design documents, scopes of work, bills of quantities or equipment specifications will be highly regarded.
- Any experience on tailings dams or dam construction will be highly regarded.
- Willing to work a 12/9 roster into Central NSW on a FIFO or DIDO basis.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to deal directly with contractors and designers, alongside an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
What Makes Prime Mining the Standout The packages are $320k for the Package Manager and $250k for the Lead Civil Engineer, both inclusive of super, with complete flexibility of PAYG or ABN contract options and support to get an ABN structure set up if you want one. We can pay that because our overheads are low and we work directly with our people. Stable work and ongoing contracts sit behind it, backed by an extensive client base across Australia, so there is somewhere to go at the same rate when this package finishes.
Beyond the money, both roles give you a real stake in a project with years of runway and a client who wants the process done properly rather than rapid and loose.
The Package
Manager owns a civil package of genuine scale.
The Lead Civil
Engineer gets exposure to the full picture from design review through to construction handover, working directly under someone doing package management well. Either way you build a track record in tailings, which is one of the tightest skill markets in the country right now.
We recognise and reward people who do good work, and our team is known for its culture and camaraderie. Our people are happy to take calls from anyone who is uncertain about moving into consulting and wants to hear how it works from someone who has been doing it for years.

We keep our overheads low by working directly with our people, which means we do not use recruiters. If a recruiter has approached you about this role, they do not represent us. Apply directly with a resume to be considered. No cover letter required.
