APR Recycling is looking for an Education and Community Engagement Officer. This role will bridge the gap between our advanced recovery operations and the public, helping the community understand why recycling matters and exactly how to do it right. It will pull back the curtain on the recycling process, allowing the hosting of tours of our MRF to show school groups, volunteers, and residents what happens to their materials once it leaves the recycling bin. The goal is to drive measurable behaviour change and reduce contamination through transparency and inspiration.

- Location: Based in Truganina
Key Responsibilities
Community Education & Tour Management
- Host Site Tours: Lead engaging, safe, and educational tours in our MRF for school groups, community volunteers, and local council stakeholders.
- The "Why" & "How": Develop curriculum and presentations that explain the environmental benefits of recycling and provide clear guidance on what items belong in the recycling bin.
- Material Journey: Create content that tracks the lifecycle of recyclables, showing the community how their "waste" is transformed into new resources.
Resource Development & Campaigns
- Educational Collateral: Design and maintain practical, high-impact resources (print and digital)
to support resident and customer engagement.
- Behaviour Change: Design campaigns focused on reducing contamination and promoting specialized streams like the orange bag soft plastics program.
Engagement & Relationship Building
- Workshop Delivery: Facilitate workshops and presentations for diverse audiences, from primary students to corporate partners.
- Council Support: Act as a key liaison for local councils, supporting their education and community engagement platforms.
Reporting & Insight
- Data Translation: Analyse MRF contamination data and engagement metrics to identify trends and opportunities.
- Customer Reporting: Write explicit, professional reports that translate technical recovery data into actionable insights for councils.
Key Attributes & Qualifications

- Public Speaking: A natural storyteller who is comfortable leading large groups and can adapt their tone for different audiences (e.g., kids vs. council execs).
- Technical Proficiency: Strong capability to simplify technical recovery processes into easy-to-understand visuals.
- Passion: A genuine belief in the circular economy and the drive to inspire others to recycle correctly.
