- Accurately record meter consumption data using company-provided handheld devices, mobile applications or when required standard data capture forms.
- Identify and report instances of meter tampering, physical damage, or access issues (e.g., locked gates or doors, blocked access ways, aggressive lot owners or dogs).
- Conduct visual inspections of metering infrastructure to ensure ongoing integrity and safety.
Field Operations (Connections & Disconnections)
- Perform manual electricity disconnections and reconnections at the meter panel safely and in accordance with exact work instructions and service orders.
- Ensure you check in and check out of every site or route in accordance with defined health and safety work instructions and plans.
- Verify site details and ensure strict adherence to all compliance protocols before performing any disconnection (including mandatory checks for Life Support flags or active medical equipment).
- Liaise with the operations team to confirm successful completion of service orders in real-time.
Customer & Community Engagement
- Conduct targeted letter drops and deliver physical notices (e.g., planned outage notifications, final disconnection warnings, or introductory retail information) directly to lot residents and strata management.
- Maintain a polite, qualified, and de-escalatory demeanour when interacting with residents, property managers, and the public while in the field.
Workplace Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply strictly with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies, particularly those relating to electrical hazard awareness and safe site access.
- Utilise all always required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Operate vehicles safely and adhere to all local traffic laws.
- Ensure all field activities align with National Energy Retail Rules (NERR) guidelines for site access and customer interaction.
Skills & Requirements
- Current and valid open Driver's Licence.
- High level of physical fitness and mobility (the role may require walking several kilometres a day, bending, and navigating uneven terrain or stairs).
- Exceptional attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, managing time effectively to complete daily route schedules.
- Strong situational awareness and commitment to personal and public safety.
- Previous experience in utility meter reading, field services, courier delivery, or as an electrical trade assistant.
- Basic understanding of electrical switchboards and metering configurations.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
This is an outdoor, field-based position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, managing changing daily routes, and spending significant time driving and walking between lots.
