Role Description The Part-Time Research Assistant – Thermoelectric and Energy Materials will support experimental and analytical work in advanced materials research. The role is on-site, based at QUT in Brisbane, QLD, and involves assisting with the preparation, synthesis, and characterization of thermoelectric and other energy-related materials.
Day-to-day tasks may include conducting laboratory experiments, collecting and organizing data, performing basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records of research activities.
The Research
Assistant will collaborate with academic staff and other researchers, contribute to literature reviews, and help prepare research reports, figures, and presentations.
Additional responsibilities may include ensuring laboratory safety compliance, managing research materials and equipment, and participating in regular team meetings to discuss progress and project milestones.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of materials science, physics, chemistry, or a closely related field, with an interest in thermoelectric and energy materials.
- Experience with laboratory practices, including safe handling of materials, use of characterization equipment, and basic experimental design.
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze experimental data using appropriate software tools (e.g., Excel, scientific plotting or statistical packages).
- Strong research skills, including literature review, critical evaluation of scientific articles, and effective note-taking and documentation.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for drafting reports, preparing figures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively in a part-time capacity, and follow established protocols and guidelines.
- Enrollment in or completion of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant STEM discipline; prior research or honors project experience is an advantage.
- Commitment to ethical research conduct, adherence to QUT policies, and willingness to learn new experimental and analytical techniques.
