The ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator to join our Nyrstar Port Pirie team. This is a practical, site-based role where you will operate mobile plant and equipment to support safe, efficient materials handling across the operation.
In this role, you will:
- Operate a range of mobile plant and heavy equipment, which may include water carts, excavators, loaders, road brooms, forklifts and bobcats
- Load, move and manage raw materials safely across the site, including stockpiling activities
- Complete work safely and efficiently in line with company procedures, work instructions and site requirements
- Carry out basic checks and preventative maintenance to keep equipment in safe, operational condition
- Identify and report hazards, incidents and safety concerns through the appropriate channels
- Follow safety, hygiene and client material-handling procedures, including wearing required PPE
- Contribute positively to pre-starts, toolbox meetings, training and site communication sessions
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, leading hands, operators and site stakeholders
About YOU To be successful in this role, you will bring a solid safety mindset, a practical approach to work and the confidence to learn and operate in a heavy industrial environment.
We are looking for someone who can bring, or is willing to develop:
- Experience in plant operating, materials handling, quarrying, mining or heavy industrial environments will be highly regarded
- Experience operating mobile plant such as dump trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, forklifts or similar equipment is advantageous, but not essential
- A willingness to learn stockpiling and safe materials handling practices
- Relevant licences, tickets or competencies for plant and equipment operation
- Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of basic equipment checks, repairs and preventative maintenance requirements
- A genuine commitment to safety, including WHS requirements, site procedures and our Safety 1st Always Works culture
- Strong time management, prioritisation and self-management skills
- The ability to problem solve, work with limited supervision and contribute to a team-first environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- A flexible approach to working hours, shift work and operational requirements on a 24/7 industrial site
- Forklift licence, First Aid and/or Level III Operators Certificate would be highly regarded
