Career progression

Due to their experience and training, our graduates can progress their careers very quickly. Eighty‑seven percent of graduates completing the program stay on to be employed by the Queensland Government post‑program. Our graduates' salaries can increase up to $27,000 (based at AO5 level) or more after completing the 2‑year program.

1. The exact salary will be determined as per the applicable enterprise bargaining agreement. As an indicator, the minimum AO3 rate under the State Government Entities Certified Agreements 2023 as at 1 July 2025 is $76,217.

2. Working week hours may vary depending on the applicable enterprise bargaining agreement.

What you’ll be doing

Digital Engineer graduates play a critical role in assisting in designing, modelling, and optimising engineering solutions and systems using advanced digital tools and methodologies. They bridge the gap between physical and digital systems, leveraging technologies such as 3D modelling, simulations, and digital twins. Their work ensures smarter, more efficient processes and solutions, contributing to creative projects that align with organisational goals. Digital Engineers assist in collaborating across disciplines to streamline workflows, enhance project outcomes, and drive sustainability in engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities in a Digital Engineer role may include:

- supporting the recreation and coordination of 3D models, prototypes, and digital twins for physical systems or structures, enabling early testing, analysis, and optimisation
- under guidance use digital simulation tools to analyse designs under various scenarios and make data‑driven modifications to improve performance and efficiency
- assist in the incorporating advanced technologies such as IoT, AI, or automation into digital engineering workflows to modernise processes and systems.
- liaise with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective digital solutions.
- assist in continuously refining workflows and processes using digital tools, ensuring the alignment of engineering solutions with sustainability and cost‑efficiency objectives.

Ideal candidate profile

Ideal candidates for a Digital Engineer graduate role will:

- be detail oriented and have a strong analytical mindset
- demonstrate a proactive and innovative approach to problem solving, finding digital solutions to traditional engineering challenges
- possess effective communication skills and have the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
- be self‑motivated, able to work independently, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- understand the importance of environmentally conscious practices in engineering designs.

Technical skills

Knowledge of:

- proficiency in digital design and simulation software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, BIM tools, or similar platforms
- familiarity with MATLAB, ANSYS, or equivalent tools for system analysis and optimisation




- programming and coding knowledge, such as Python, C++, or MATLAB to enhance simulation, modelling, or automation processes
- understanding of cloud and collaboration tools and platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or BIM 360 to streamline digital workflows
- basic familiarity with emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, or AR/VR is highly desirable.

Qualifications

A degree in:

- Software engineering
- Computer science
- Data science
- Digital technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Digital Graduate Program, you must:

- Have completed (or will complete) a Bachelor’s, Graduate Certificate, or Master’s degree between January-2023 and December 2026. If you have an overseas qualification, it must be recognised in Australia prior to applying. Learn more about the Qualifications Recognition process (https://internationaleducation.gov.au/services‑and‑resources/pages/qualifications‑recognition.aspx)
- Hold a degree in one of these fields:
- Information Technology and related fields: Information technology, cloud computing, cyber security, computer science, data analytics, robotics, information management, mathematics, software or systems engineering.
- Emerging Technologies and AI: Artificial intelligence, automation development.
- Strategic Management and Business: Business, marketing, or project management.
- Design and Creative Industries: Web and multimedia design, user experience (UX) or interactive design.

- International students currently residing in Australia must also have:

- Unrestricted working rights in Australia until at least February 2029. This includes:
- Permanent Residency, citizenship, or work‑related visas (e.g., Temporary Graduate 485 Visa) that permit full‑time, unrestricted work.
- Evidence of transitioning to unrestricted working rights (if on a bridging visa).

Successful applicants

If you are successful you must:

- relocate to Brisbane (or other Queensland locations) at your own expense.
- be ready to start by February 2027. Earlier start dates may be accommodated based on agency‑specific needs.
