About the role
As an Optical Dispenser, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality optical services from end to end. Reporting to the Health Centre Manager, you’ll assist patients with frame and lens selection, interpret prescriptions, manage orders and appointments, and provide excellent customer service throughout their Optical journey.
You’ll work closely with your Optical team mates and the wider Health Centre team to ensure patients receive tailored, practical solutions aligned with their visual needs, lifestyle, and budget.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide expert advice on frames, lenses, sunglasses, and optical appliances, tailored to patient prescriptions, lifestyle, and budget
- Interpret optical prescriptions and accurately fit, adjust, and dispense optical appliances
- Facilitate bookings, process transactions, and manage patient orders end‑to‑end
- Assist Optometrists during testing and support clinical workflows as required
- Manage stock processes including ordering, stock entry, and inventory control
- Perform opening and closing duties, including settlement and reconciliation
- Promote Optical and wider organisational products and services
- Resolve customer enquiries professionally, maintain accurate records, comply with regulations, and contribute to a positive team environment
What we’re looking for
You’re a friendly, detail‑oriented Optical Dispenser who enjoys delivering excellent customer service. You communicate clearly, take pride in your technical skills, and enjoy helping patients feel confident in their optical choices.
Essential requirements
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in the optical industry (health fund or eyecare centre highly regarded) and relevant qualification (Certificate in Optical Dispensing or Optical Mechanics)
- Strong customer service and/or retail sales experience
- Solid knowledge of frame and lens selection, fitting, and adjustments
- High attention to detail with strong organisational and computer skills (including Microsoft Office and optical systems)
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with flexibility to work a full-time roster (Monday–Saturday)
