CFMEU QNT is Queensland's leading construction industry union, representing thousands of members across the state's building and construction sector. We fight for safe workplaces, fair wages, and strong conditions for construction workers. We're looking for an experienced Industrial/Legal Officer to join our team and help us continue delivering real outcomes for our members.

About the Role

This is a senior position within our Industrial and Legal team, responsible for providing high-level industrial relations and legal advice, representing members and the union in tribunals and courts, and supporting enterprise bargaining and dispute resolution across the construction sector. You'll work closely with organisers, officials, and members on the ground, translating complex legal and industrial issues into practical outcomes that protect workers' rights and improve conditions on construction sites across Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert industrial and legal advice to union officials, organisers, and members
- Represent the union and its members in the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, and other tribunals and courts
- Support and provide advice for enterprise bargaining negotiations
- Manage litigation, including drafting submissions, briefs, and correspondence




- Advise on and enforce compliance with awards, enterprise agreements, and workplace laws
- Investigate and resolve industrial disputes, underpayment claims, and workplace safety issues
- Mentor and support junior industrial and legal staff
- Liaise with barristers, external legal counsel, and regulatory bodies (e.g. Fair Work Ombudsman, WHSQ)
- Contribute to union campaigns, policy submissions, and law reform advocacy
- Establish and redesign policy, processes and resources to improve efficiencies and the effectiveness of the industrial relations work within the union.

About You

- Law degree with current admission to practice in Queensland (or eligibility for admission), OR extensive senior industrial relations experience in a union or workplace relations setting
- Strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act, industrial instruments, and construction industry awards/agreements
- Demonstrated experience in tribunal advocacy and dispute resolution
- Proven experience in enterprise bargaining - Excellent negotiation, communication, and drafting skills
- A genuine commitment to the union movement and improving conditions for construction workers
- Ability to manage a demanding caseload and competing priorities independently
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel
- Experience and understanding of the construction industry is an advantage
