Salary range: $79,500 - $86,600 - depending on skills level and work experience + superannuation.

About the Role
On behalf of our client - a leading structural steel fabricator specialising in commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects - we are seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator. The company operates a state-of-the-art facility with advanced CNC, plasma cutting, and automated welding equipment, delivering precision-engineered steelwork for high-profile builds. This role is critical to maintaining their reputation for quality, safety, and on-time delivery.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Preparation & Planning
• Interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements, weld symbols, and assembly sequences.
• Conduct material take-offs and plan efficient cutting layouts to minimise waste, liaising with detailers and project managers.
Cutting & Shaping
• Operate CNC plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, and band saws to cut structural steel sections (beams, columns, channels) to precise dimensions.
• Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hydraulic presses, rollers, and manual methods (heating, hammering) to achieve required profiles.
Assembly & Joining
• Align and tack components using clamps, jigs, and measuring instruments (levels, squares, tape measures) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Join steel sections via flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), MIG, or stick welding, as well as bolting and riveting for field connections.
Finishing & Quality Control
• Inspect welds for bead width, penetration,
and uniformity; perform non-destructive testing (visual, dye penetrant) as required.
• Grind, file, and polish welds and surfaces to specified finish; apply protective coatings or acid washes to prevent corrosion.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 2 years' post-apprenticeship experience in metal fabrication and welding within an industrial environment
• Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and using manual/machine tools.
• Robust welding skills (FCAW/MIG) and knowledge of Australian welding standards.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality assurance.
