Our client is a global leader in manufacturing and gas handling solutions across sectors including power generation, oil and gas, waste water, metals, mining, infrastructure and transport.
Due to growth, we are seeking a HSE Systems & Site Safety Support Adviser to join their team in the Newcastle region. Within this role, you will provide site‑based HSE support and assurance while contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the ISO‑aligned Integrated Management System. Deliver visible field presence (audits/inspections), incident response and investigations, and practical coaching to drive safe, compliant ways of working.
The role:
- Assist with the development, review and implementation of the Integrated Management System ensuring its aligned to ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
- Maintain and improve procedures, forms and templates; support document control and change management to keep site packs current and audit‑ready.
- Conduct site inspections/audits of worksites, plant and equipment; identify hazards, assess risks, and verify control effectiveness. ·
- Verify correct use of PPE and compliance with permits to work and site standards.
- Prepare and submit site safety documentation (e.g., JSEAs, safety files) in collaboration with Service/Project Managers.
- Provide first‑response support to site incidents; lead/assist structured investigations (e.g., ICAM)
to root cause; produce reports and corrective action plans; track closure to verify effectiveness.
- Record and report hazards, near misses, injuries and health issues; support trend analysis and lessons learned.
- Deliver toolbox talks and targeted training topics; coach supervisors and contractors on safe work practices.
- Champion Life Saving Rules (LSRs) and Just Culture principles to reinforce safe decision‑making.
- Maintain accurate records (observations, audits, NCRs, VFLs); prepare monthly EHS status reports for trend analysis and management review.
- Support internal/external ISO audits and site readiness.
- Work closely with Project/Service Managers, Engineers, Site Supervisors and client representatives to embed controls and resolve issues.
What we're looking for:
- Relevant qualifications within WHS (Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety or equivalent)
- Drivers licence
- White card
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor (preferred)
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor (desirable)
- ICAM Lead Investigator (desirable)
- Ability to interpret and apply the WHS Act 2011, WHS Regulations 2025, and duties of care relevant to PCBUs, workers, contractors and officers
- Competency to perform risk assessments consistent with -How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks Code of Practice /Managing Risks of Plant
- Ability to apply key Protected Work Australia Model Codes of Practice especiallyManaging WHS Risks,Construction Work,Managing Risks of Plant,Confined Spaces,Hazardous Manual Tasks,First Aid in the Workplace
- Demonstrated experience conducting structured investigations using recognised WHS methodologies (e.g., ICAM, 5‑Why).
- Experience in industrial/mining/power station environments with strong on‑site safety management capability.
- Direct experience conducting site inspections, risk assessments, and WHS compliance checks
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation and policy; able to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Working knowledge of implementing, maintaining or auditingISO 45001 (Safety Management Systems) andISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)
- Ability to Consult and Coordinate WHS Activities In alignment with the Consultation, Cooperation & Coordination Code of Practice.·
- Experience preparing WHS documentation (JSEAs, procedures, safety files) in alignment with WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice.
- Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills; problem‑solving and initiative.
- Ability to work independently using own initiative
- Proficient in MS Office
- Regular travel to APAC projects, workshop and offices and customer sites; occasional short‑notice mobilisations; work in active industrial settings.
