About the role

The role of the Chaplain will encompass religious activities and support; spiritual and pastoral care; welfare; and liaison and advocacy. Chaplaincy services may also provide support to prisoners’ families and friends and undertake liaison on behalf of prisoners in matters of religious, social, and human concern. In addition, pastoral care may be offered to staff within prisons and correctional centres.

The role requires responsiveness to the diverse personal, spiritual, and religious needs of prisoners, their families, and staff, delivered with sensitivity, respect, and professionalism.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:





- Conducting religious services such as prayer and/or liturgical services and assisting as appropriate with ecumenical/interfaith services.
- Assisting prisoners with personal problems and feelings.
- Assisting prisoners to understand and adapt to the prison setting.
- Liaison between prisoners and their families.

To be considered for this position, applicants require:

- Satisfactory completion of a qualification in theology, pastoral ministry or religious education gained at a tertiary or adult education institution with units completed in the following areas: Scripture, Christian Faith, Pastoral Theology, and Sacramental Life.
