Stahl Metall Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to lead the technical development, engineering coordination and implementation of customer-specific cable assemblies, wire harnesses, electrical control systems, communication and power enclosures, interconnect solutions and custom-manufactured products. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will apply professional engineering knowledge to develop practical technical solutions, assess customer and engineering requirements, coordinate prototype and validation activities, resolve complex technical and manufacturability issues, and support the delivery of engineering projects from design review through to production implementation. The role will provide technical direction, guidance and review to Engineering Technologists, while working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers and customers to ensure engineering deliverables meet approved specifications, applicable standards, quality requirements and project timeframes.

- Salary: $100,000 to $110,000 per annum plus superannuation Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development and engineering delivery of customer-specific cable assemblies, wire harnesses, electrical control systems, enclosures, interconnect products and custom-manufactured solutions.
- Analyse customer requirements, engineering drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards and performance requirements to develop practical, compliant and manufacturable engineering solutions.
- Prepare, review and maintain engineering drawings, technical specifications, bills of materials, manufacturing instructions and engineering change documentation.
- Assess technical feasibility, design constraints, materials, component selection, manufacturability, assembly methods, testing requirements and product-performance considerations.
Plan and coordinate prototype builds, engineering validation, technical testing, design reviews and product implementation activities.
- Investigate complex design, product-performance and manufacturability issues; conduct root-cause analysis and recommend technical solutions, design improvements and corrective actions.
- Provide technical direction, guidance and review to Engineering Technologists undertaking engineering documentation, prototype work, testing, design modifications and production implementation activities.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers and customers to ensure technical requirements,
engineering deliverables and project timeframes are met.
Candidate
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- At least three years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing, industrial, engineering-design, product-development or custom-engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing, technically evaluating and implementing engineered products, product modifications, manufacturing solutions or customer-specific engineering projects.
- Strong ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, customer specifications, technical documentation, bills of materials, standards and manufacturing requirements.
- Experience coordinating prototype development, engineering validation, technical testing, design reviews, engineering change control and technical problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, coordinate technical work and review outputs prepared by Engineering Technologists or other technical personnel.
- Sound understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, technical standards, quality-management systems and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder-management and project-coordination skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, production personnel, quality personnel, suppliers and customers.
