Our client is a major Australian insurer that owns a geospatial platform used during natural disasters. It maps impacted areas as an event unfolds and feeds that intelligence directly into claims assessment, so customers get answers in days rather than weeks. The technology was acquired outright and has now been brought fully in-house, with significant ongoing investment behind it.
This is a rare opportunity to take genuine ownership of a niche, high-impact product inside an enterprise environment, with a transparent commercial growth path ahead of it.
You'll own the roadmap and strategic direction for the platform, working across business stakeholders and an in-house engineering team of around twenty developers.
Your remit will include
- Owning and driving the product roadmap
- Running discovery sessions, inceptions and requirements workshops
- Translating business intent into clear direction for engineering and explaining the reasoning behind it
- Partnering with claims, assessing and operational stakeholders who rely on the platform under pressure
- Building the case to license and commercialise the platform externally
- Identifying where AI can add practical value across the product
You'll sit within a small, established product team alongside a data analyst, UI/UX designer, Scrum Master and vendor lead,
reporting to a hands-on product leader who is genuinely invested in developing the person in this role. We're particularly interested in speaking with Product Owners and Product Managers with experience across:
- Digital platforms or complex enterprise web applications
- Geospatial, GIS, mapping, imagery or spatial data products
- Insurance, claims, underwriting or broader financial services
- React, JavaScript or modern front-end technologies
- UI/UX-led or highly visual products
- API and data-heavy integrations
- Agile delivery environments
A technical or software development background will be highly regarded, as will UI/UX experience.
About you
You'll be an experienced Product Owner who is comfortable running the workshop rather than just attending it, and who can hold a room of business stakeholders and a room of engineers with equal credibility. You bring a learner's mindset, curious about a domain you don't yet know, and willing to ask rather than assume. This is an outward-facing role, and it suits someone who wants breadth rather than a narrowly defined ticket-writing brief.
If you're looking for a role where your product experience supports people on some of the worst days of their lives, we'd love to hear from you.
