Role Summary

This role is also referred to at some schools as a “Learning Support Assistant.”

This role will support and assist teachers and learning support staff through the provision of planned and coordinated programs tailored for the behavioural, academic, socio-emotional and spiritual development of students with diverse learning needs. The College has a very strong team ethos, with all staff sharing in the development of support plans and strategies.

Key Accountabilities

- Be proactive and able to implement evidence-based strategies for students with special education needs
- Have the initiative and ability to scaffold and differentiate tasks to assist classroom teachers




- Provision of learning support to individual and small groups of students with diverse and complex learning needs, including behavioural, socio-emotional and academic needs
- Provision of in class support within mainstream classes in collaboration with the class teacher
- Provision of support in practical activities, excursions and camps
- Support with the preparation and sourcing of learning resources and assessment for students whose current achievement is significantly below their current stage of schooling
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to support students with additional needs
- Confidence to run lessons in small groups and one to one settings.
- Adapt approach according to the changing needs of the individual learner.
- Participate in individual plan meetings and implement interventions based on students' respective plans.
- Planning collaboratively with the class teacher to develop effective programs (e.g. IP input)
- Reporting relevant aspects of student progress to the teacher and the other members of the Learning Support and Academic Care Teams
- Support students in the playground
- Supporting school wide initiatives and policies
- Attend and support College Professional Learning programs
- Liaising with year patrons, learning support and wellbeing team in assisting students who need different approaches to education
- Assisting with the disability provisions process, where required
- Ensure learning support documentation is up-to-date and work alongside the Learning Support Team to evaluate learning support provision




- Attending after school events to support students and broader school staff. This nurtures relationships with colleagues and students
- Develop and maintain professional knowledge, including the knowledge of the curricular and syllabus requirements
- Attend any relevant training or meetings and willingness to develop existing skills.
- Attend Learning Support Team meetings
- Other duties as required

- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and communication skills with multiple stakeholders (eg students, teachers, parents).
- Adopt a principled approach to the workplace, adhering to the school’s Code of Conduct and demonstrating respect in all matters
- Demonstrate integrity in all dealings with staff relationships and address concerns appropriately to senior staff
- Proficient with IT systems, such as Google Suite
- Strong communication and organisation skills
- Flexible and be a team player
- Have a keen interest in pedagogy
- Willing to adopt new approaches
- Have high energy levels
