Job Title: Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician

Southern NSW Local Health District – Government health authority, Australia.

Employment Type: Permanent Full‑Time

Responsibilities

The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician will provide recovery‑focused, person‑centred, and culturally competent services including assessment, care coordination, intervention, liaison, advocacy, and review as part of a multidisciplinary team. Services will be delivered to both Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal people who are referred to the service with mental illness, distress, or risk issues.

Eligibility and Requirements

- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and demonstrate Aboriginality; applicants must address the selection criterion.
- Key qualifications: Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) or registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high‑quality, safe, and connected care to consumers, families, and carers in a person‑centred and holistic manner, promoting self‑determination.




- High‑level communication skills and the ability to engage and collaborate with consumers, families, carers, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer use, including Electronic Medical Record Programs and Microsoft Office, and Skype for Business.
- Knowledge of mental health directions, strategic priorities, and legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act 2007).
- Current unrestricted driver’s licence and willingness to travel long distances as required; overnight stays may be necessary.
- Eligible for permanent employment: Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen with a current passport.
