Introduction

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service. Servicing the communities of Cape York, with the main office is located in Cairns, Apunipima delivers public health care, and social and emotional well-being care, to community members. Being a part of the team at Apunipima means helping us deliver essential services as well as building capacity in communities to manage their own health care needs.

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service. We provide culturally appropriate, family centred, comprehensive primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the Opportunity The Psychosocial Navigator plays a vital role in supporting individuals living with severe mental illness to access services, strengthen their independence, build meaningful social connections, and improve their overall wellbeing through a recovery-focused and culturally responsive approach. This is a Fixed Term contract ending on the 30th of June 2027.

This position is FIFO from Cairns to the Indigenous community of Aurukun on a weekly basis.

Skills And Experiences

About You To be successful in this role you will have:

- A tertiary qualification relevant to the position such as Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health or Counselling
- Eligible or hold membership of his/her professional association
- Current Queensland Drives Licence




- Blue Card (Working with Children Card)
- Have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Isander people with a mental health illness
- Demonstrated ability to provide direct and comprehensive case management in a variety of settings including home, clinic and community
- Demonstrated knowledge of building capacity and skills to assist people in managing their mental illness, improve their relationships with family and others
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of collaborative, holistic, and culturally appropriate practice with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individual
