Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join our team and play a pivotal role in managing construction costs across all stages of a project's lifecycle. The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen and technical expertise to support sound financial decision-making from feasibility through to project completion. This role suits a proactive professional with a thorough understanding of the Australian construction industry and a commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget.

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure robust cost control and transparent financial reporting throughout.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyse architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, cost plans, and feasibility studies that support effective budgetary control.

- Monitor design developments and changes throughout the project lifecycle, assessing their financial impact and measuring, valuing, and negotiating variations in a timely and transparent manner.

- Prepare and issue tender documentation, evaluate subcontractor and supplier submissions, and provide clear recommendations to assist in procurement decisions.

- Manage the full contract administration process, including the preparation and assessment of progress claims, payment certificates, and final accounts in accordance with relevant contract conditions.

- Develop and maintain detailed cash flow forecasts, cost reports, and financial summaries to keep stakeholders informed and ensure projects remain financially viable.

- Identify, assess, and advise on commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies in collaboration with the project team.

- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to resolve commercial issues, respond to queries, and maintain strong professional relationships.

- Prepare and negotiate claims,



including extensions of time and loss and expense, ensuring all submissions are well-substantiated and compliant with contractual obligations.

- Assist in the preparation of project budgets at inception stage and provide ongoing cost advice to support value engineering initiatives and design optimisation.

- Maintain accurate and organised project records, ensuring all documentation is stored, version-controlled, and accessible in line with company and project requirements.

- Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost management processes, templates, and reporting frameworks across the business.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

- Minimum of 3–5 years of demonstrated experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the Australian construction industry.

- Proven ability to prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and tender documentation across a range of project types and values.

- Strong working knowledge of standard forms of construction contract used in Australia, including AS 4000, AS 4300, and NEC or similar.

- Proficiency in industry-standard estimating and cost management software, such as CostX, Buildsoft, or equivalent platforms.

- High-level analytical and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Solid understanding of construction methodology, scheduling, and project delivery methods including lump sum, design and construct, and managing contractor models.





- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a commercially minded approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

- Membership with or working towards membership of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

- Experience across multiple project sectors, including commercial, residential, infrastructure, industrial, or government.

- Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and 5D cost modelling workflows.

- Exposure to early contractor involvement (ECI) or alliance contracting delivery models.

- Post-graduate qualifications in construction law, project management, or a related field.

- Experience working on projects valued at $50 million or above.
