Finance Lead (Part time – 3 days per fortnight)

Waratah Care is a community-based not-for-profit organisation with more than 30 years of experience delivering high-quality short-term respite services for older people. As we continue to grow and expand our services, we are seeking an experienced Finance Lead to provide strategic financial leadership and ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable while supporting innovation and future growth.

The Finance Lead is responsible for leading the financial management of Waratah Care by providing accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, strategic analysis and governance support.

Financial Management

- Prepare monthly management reports and financial statements.
- Monitor organisational financial performance against budget.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain financial records.
- Oversee cash flow management and forecasting.
- Ensure accuracy of all financial transactions.

Budgeting & Forecasting

- Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
- Develop quarterly financial forecasts.
- Provide financial modelling for new programs and business opportunities.
- Analyse financial trends and provide recommendations.

Strategic Financial Planning

- Partner with the Manager to support organisational growth.
- Support business cases and financial feasibility studies.
- Support long-term financial sustainability planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Compliance & Governance

- Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Support annual external audits.
- Prepare statutory reports.
- Ensure compliance with ACNC, ATO and other regulatory requirements.




- Assist with Board finance papers and reports.

Grant & Funding Management

- Monitor grant income and expenditure.
- Prepare financial acquittals.
- Support funding applications with financial information.
- Monitor compliance with funding agreements.

Payroll & Financial Oversight

- Provide oversight of payroll processes.
- Ensure payroll compliance with legislation and Awards.
- Support payroll reconciliation and reporting.
- Review salary packaging and superannuation compliance.

Systems & Process Improvement

- Review and improve financial systems.
- Support the development of policies and financial procedures.
- Identify opportunities for automation.
- Support implementation of new financial software where appropriate.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

- Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.
- Minimum five years' experience in financial management.
- Demonstrated experience preparing budgets and forecasts.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to work autonomously.

Desirable

- Experience within aged care, health or the not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge of Australian aged care funding.
- Experience working with Xero or similar accounting software.
- Experience preparing Board financial reports.
