About the role

We have an opportunity for aPrincipal Network Security Engineerto be part of ourNetwork and Security Platform, Technology and Communication Services Command team. ThePrincipal Network Security Engineerprovides strategic leadership and expert guidance in the design and delivery of secure, resilient technology network solutions that safeguard critical policing systems and sensitive information, ensuring network security is embedded into enterprise architecture and digital transformation initiatives, enabling NSWPF to uphold operational integrity, protect public trust, and deliver secure, modern policing services in a dynamic threat landscape.

The Network and Security Platform Services Directorate manage and maintain the overarching connectivity and security controls for over 550 NSW Police sites.

The directorate is responsible for connecting users and devices to NSWPF systems, the delivery of data across all NSW Police sites and systems, managing network boundaries to secure and control dataflow, managing access to NSWPF systems, ensuring interoperability and connectivity between NSWPF applications, external services and devices. In addition, the directorate provides NSWPF telecommunications services and oversees the end‑to‑end operation of the NSWPF network to ensure reliable, secure, and consistent service delivery.

The Network and Security Platform Services Directorate have an opportunity for a Principal Network Security Engineer to join their team. The Principal Network Security Engineer is responsible for:

- Enforcing secure‑by‑design principles across all connectivity solutions.




- Representing the Directorate in cyber security working groups and forums, including critical gateway review bodies.
- Designing network security solutions in alignment with approved architectures and standards.
- Guiding project delivery teams and third‑party vendors to ensure compliance with mandatory cyber security obligations.
- Coaching and developing internal teams by advocating best practices in information protection and network security.
- Leading the development and maintenance of internal technical standards across transport, messaging, cloud security, and identity management domains.

Important Information

- You will be asked to complete a Baseline Vetting Clearance, please note you may be required to upgrade your clearance to NV1 in the future.
- A relevant postgraduate university degree or recognised industry certification (e.g. CISSP or CCNP Security), combined with relevant experience, is required to be successful in this role.

Total Remuneration Package: $202,163 pa. Package includes salary from $170,841 to $178,369, plus employer's contribution to superannuation of 12% and annual leave loading.
