RETAIL PHARMACIST

SALARY $90K TO $100K PER ANNUM

FULLTIME - PERMANENT

Position Purpose The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate and lawful dispensing of medicines, providing professional health advice and delivering community pharmacy services. The role supports the safe use of medicines, positive patient outcomes and efficient pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Review prescriptions for legality, dosage, interactions, contraindications, allergies and other clinical risks.
- Accurately dispense, label and supply medicines in accordance with legislation, professional standards and prescriber directions.
- Counsel customers and carers on medicine use, dosage, storage, side effects, precautions, interactions and adherence.
- Recommend appropriate non-prescription medicines and provide advice on minor ailments, health promotion and disease prevention, referring customers where necessary.
- Conduct medication reviews, clinical interventions and approved pharmacy services within the pharmacist's scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate dispensing, clinical, controlled-drug and statutory records.
- Manage Schedule 8 and other scheduled medicines, including storage, reconciliation and reporting.
- Liaise with prescribers, hospitals, aged-care facilities and other health professionals to resolve medication issues and support continuity of care.
- Respond appropriately to adverse reactions, dispensing errors, product recalls and other safety concerns.
- Supervise pharmacy interns,



dispensary technicians and pharmacy assistants and check their work where required.
- Manage dispensary stock, expiry dates, storage temperatures, stock rotation and the secure disposal of medicines.
- Administer approved immunisations and injections.
- Provide and manage staged supply and CPOP medications where applicable.
- Prepare, check and approve Webster packs for community and aged-care residents.
- Dispense medicines for aged-care residents using electronic medication charts and provide Quality Use of Medicines services to aged-care facilities.
- Support workflow, customer service, privacy, infection control, workplace safety, QCPP compliance and continuous improvement.
- Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing career development.

Qualifications, Registration and Experience

- Recognised tertiary qualification in pharmacy.
- Current general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through Ahpra, without conditions preventing performance of the role.
- Demonstrated competence in dispensing, clinical checking, medication counselling and community pharmacy practice.
- Current knowledge of relevant Commonwealth and Western Australian medicines, poisons, privacy and pharmacy requirements.
- Current immunisation,



first aid or other service-specific accreditation required for assigned duties.

- Competence using pharmacy dispensing, claiming, inventory and point-of-sale systems.

- Medicines are supplied safely, accurately and in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
- Customers receive appropriate advice and referrals.
- Pharmacy records are complete, accurate and maintained promptly.
- Stock, medicine storage and controlled-drug processes remain compliant.
- The pharmacist contributes to efficient workflow, quality service and continuous improvement.

Conditions and Compliance The employee must maintain all required registrations, credentials and professional indemnity arrangements and immediately report any matter affecting their ability to practise. Duties must be performed in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, pharmacy policies and lawful directions. Reasonable duties consistent with the employee's qualifications and position may also be assigned.
