About the Role The Risk and Controls Officer delivers key activities within the enterprise risk management framework, including risk assurance and controls testing, while also building organisational capability across SCS by leading training, education and communication initiatives that help risk owners confidently apply risk concepts and practices in their work.
Key responsibilities include: contributing to enterprise risk management by supporting the implementation and maintenance of the risk framework supporting operational risk programs of work, including Risks and Controls Self-Assessment, Key Risk Indicators, deep-dive reviews and assurance activities supporting high-quality assurance work by developing test plans, completing process and control reviews, and compiling structured findings maintaining and enhancing risk systems by keeping the SCS risk platform up to date and ensuring high quality, accurate and aligned data supporting risk and control owners by guiding system use, assisting with data entry and troubleshooting,
and helping maintain strong data integrity serving as the central contact for risk system queries, reporting schedules and data requests consolidating risk information from schools and business units to produce enterprise‐wide reports monitoring key risk metrics by tracking appetite, tolerances and performance indicators, and escalating emerging issues to senior risk leads developing and delivering tailored learning modules on risk identification, assessment, controls, incident reporting and NESA compliance along with clear and accessible learning resources coordinating risk training and communications by managing calendars, campaigns, surveys and stakeholder engagement to ensure initiatives are delivered effectively fostering strong stakeholder relationships with principals, school leaders, teachers and central office teams to support consistent risk practices contributing specialist expertise to projects and initiatives that strengthen risk management, assurance, safeguarding and NESA compliance across SCS.
About You
We are seeking a solution-orientated professional who possesses the following capabilities: a relevant tertiary qualification in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, Business, Law, Information Systems or a related field extensive enterprise risk experience with a minimum of 6 years in operational or assurance roles, including controls testing a strong knowledge of Australian risk standards such as AS/ISO 31000 and COSO, ideally within not-for-profit,
education or Catholic sectors advanced capability with risk systems including GRC platforms and data analytics for reporting demonstrated professional integrity with independence, objectivity and strong ethical standards experience in delivering professional learning across face-to-face, virtual and eLearning formats a willingness to respect, support, and uphold the mission, ethos, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of SCS.
Desirable: post‑graduate professional credentials such as Certified Practising Risk Manager or Certified Internal Auditor (or equivalent)
strong data analysis capability with experience using tools like Excel, Power BI or Tableau and data modelling highly regarded current driver’s licence and access to a car understanding of Australian schooling systems, particularly NSW and Catholic education contexts practising Catholic with demonstrated commitment to the teachings of the Church and active engagement in a Catholic faith community.
