The Kakadu Program isbased in Jabiru and isa residential, experiential learning program delivered across Kakadu,Katherineand Darwin. It provides young people with structured educational,cultural,and personal development experiences, supported by teaching staff, coaches, outdoor educationpersonnel,and trainees.
Jabiru is a small townshiplocatedin the heart ofKakadu National Park, Northern Territory. Originallyestablishedin the early 1980s to support the Ranger Uranium Mine, Jabiru has evolved into the main service hub for the region.
Jabiru is also a gateway for visitors exploring Kakadu’s cultural and natural attractions, combining a close‑knit community lifestyle with unique access to one of Australia’s most significant natural environments.
The Role
In 2021 the schoolcommenceda partnered initiative with Traditional Owners to provided middle school students with extended, residentialprogramacross the Northern Territory, broadening students’ experiences beyond the conventional routines of family and school life. So too their connection to country.
Based in the township of Jabiru, theKakadu Program Teachers and Specialistsare residential educators who support the School’s Kakadu Program in the Northern Territory through the development and delivery of innovative, place-based learning experiences. This includes outdoor education and activities such as cultural immersion experiences, guided walks, overnight campouts, community activities, and partnership with the local school, all designed to foster connection, resilience, intercultural understanding, and experiential learning.
KakaduProgram Teachers/Specialistsare required towork to the needs of the students asrequiredin a dynamic working environment.Accommodation and meals onsite are provided. Opportunities for travel and lifestyle are available, around the requirements of the role.
- Permanent, Full Time, Teacher or Specialist, commencing 1 January 2027
Key responsibilities:
- Observe andmonitorstudent learning,wellbeingand developmentthroughout the programwhilemaintainingproactive and reactive communication with parents
- Provide opportunities for student leadership and responsibility within the program, encouraging a spirit of excellence, responsibility, and cooperation within the group.
- Liaiseandmaintaincommunicationwith theKakaduProgramLeadershipTeam, on the well-being of students,staff, and other changes to daily site situations
- Promote positive and professional relationships between Caulfield Grammar School and local communitiespromotingcultural sensitivitywhen engaging with community groups
- Be committed to providing a safe physical and emotional environment where students are respected and treated with dignity inan appropriate professionaland caring manner
- Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours
- Demonstrated educationalexperiencein a residential environment is desirable
- Adaptable and compassionate to students and diverse learning spaces and environments
- Level 2 First Aid or RemoteWildernessFirst Aid Training and Anaphylaxis Management Training
- Light-rigid driving license
- National Police Check orawillingness to obtain one
- Relevant Teachingor Outdoor Educationqualifications
- Hold a current VIT,NTRegistrationor relevant Outdoor Qualifications
