Experienced BMS technician looking for your next move? Or an HVAC technician or electrician who's technically minded, interested in IT and IoT, and ready to take your trade into building automation? Full training provided.
Building automation is where trade skills meet technology. Buildings are getting smarter, and skilled controls technicians are among the most in-demand people in the industry. If you want a career that builds on your trade and adds programming, networking, and systems integration — this is it.
Synchronous Building Automation (SyncBA) is a specialist building automation company with offices in Sydney, the ACT, and Victoria, working across commercial, health, education, and industrial facilities.
We're a close-knit team that backs its people — and we're growing.
What you'll be doing
A Building Management System (BMS) is the brain of a building — the controllers and software running the air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, metering, and more. You'll work across the full life of these systems:
- Installing and configuring controllers, sensors, and field devices
- Programming control logic and developing system graphics
- Setting up and troubleshooting networks and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, IP)
- Commissioning — testing, calibrating, and fine-tuning to design intent
- Integrating BMS with HVAC plant, lighting, metering, and security systems
- Fault-finding across mechanical, electrical, and software domains
- Working with clients, builders, and mechanical contractors on live sites
- Training end-users and providing ongoing service and support
One day you're terminating field wiring in a plant room; the next you're programming a controller or chasing a network fault. You'll build skills few people in the industry hold.
Who we’re looking for
An experienced BMS technician, with:
- A proven track record installing, programming, commissioning, and servicing BMS
- Experience on platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Distech, or Trend
- Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and IP networking Or an HVAC technician or electrician ready to move into BMS, with:
1. A trade qualification in refrigeration/air conditioning or electrical (e.g. Cert III) and strong electrical fundamentals
2. A genuine interest in IT, networking, IoT, or smart building technology
3. Sharp problem-solving and a methodical approach to fault-finding No BMS experience needed for this pathway — you'll learn on the job alongside experienced technicians, backed by structured and manufacturer training.
Essential for all applicants:
- A Restricted Electrical Licence or Electrical Licence
- Full Australian working rights
- A valid driver's licence and flexibility to travel to sites across Sydney
- Strong communication skills — the role is client-facing
- Willingness to join an on-call roster (with allowances and overtime)
- A supportive team — experienced technicians who share knowledge freely, and approachable, hands-on leadership
- Real investment in your development — mentoring from senior techs plus manufacturer training (e.g. Niagara certification — adjust to what you'll commit to)
- A career with a future — building automation skills are in demand nationally, and growing
- Variety — projects and service work across commercial, health, education, and industrial sites
- Tools of the trade — vehicle or vehicle allowance, phone, and laptop
- Fairly rewarded — overtime and on-call allowances on top of salary
- Room to grow — a multi-state business with a explicit path to senior technician and project roles
