We are seeking an experienced Market Pricing Specialist to support a major pricing modernisation program within a large general insurance workplace.
This role will sit between the pricing project team and the business unit, helping translate technical pricing outputs into commercially appropriate market pricing decisions.
The focus will be on pricing setting across Farm and Commercial Motor portfolios, supporting the transition from legacy pricing models to more sophisticated pricing algorithms.
This is not a traditional marketing role and it is not purely actuarial. It would suit someone who is highly numerate, understands insurance pricing and can apply strong commercial judgement to complex pricing outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Review technical pricing outputs produced by the pricing team
- Assess whether proposed pricing is commercially appropriate for the market
- Analyse pricing movements across products, risks and individual perils
- Break down pricing components, such as property, contents, water damage and other underlying risk factors
- Identify anomalies, volatility and unexpected pricing outcomes
- Explain significant pricing changes and the key drivers behind them
- Assess pricing outcomes against:
- Portfolio performance
- Market position
- Customer retention
- New business strike rates
- Production volumes
- Commercial objectives
- Recommend adjustments to support a smooth transition from legacy pricing models to modernised pricing
- Help minimise unnecessary pricing shocks for new and existing customers
- Work closely with pricing specialists, project teams and business stakeholders
- Extract and analyse pricing data to support market pricing decisions
- Ensure pricing recommendations are credible,
evidence based and aligned with business objectives
What you will bring
- Strong general insurance pricing experience
- Excellent numerical and analytical capability
- A strong understanding of technical pricing models and pricing algorithms
- Ability to interpret technical pricing outputs and apply a commercial lens
- Experience analysing pricing movements, portfolio performance, retention and strike rates
- Ability to investigate pricing changes at a detailed level, including by product, risk and peril
- Strong data extraction and analysis skills
- Confidence explaining complex pricing outcomes in clear and practical terms
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively between technical pricing teams and business stakeholders
- Experience supporting pricing transformation, pricing model changes or pricing modernisation initiatives
Technical skills Experience with the following would be highly regarded:
- Excel
- SQL
- SAS
- Power BI
- Pricing analytics and data visualisation tools
You do not need to be a qualified actuary, although actuarial pricing experience would be considered. Earnix experience is not required.
Ideal candidate profile The ideal candidate will come from a senior insurance pricing, market pricing, portfolio pricing or actuarial pricing background.
You will be highly comfortable working with numbers and complex pricing data, while also understanding the broader commercial objectives of the business.
You will not need to be a salesperson or highly persuasive negotiator. However, you must be able to clearly explain why pricing has changed, demonstrate the underlying logic and ensure the proposed position is credible.
