Due to our continued growth, Best Wilson Buckley Family Law is seeking an exceptional Chief Legal Officer (CLO) to join our Executive Leadership Team. This newly created role can be based in our Ipswich, North Lakes, Brisbane or Toowoomba office.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Chief Legal Officer is responsible for leading the firm's legal practice, ensuring the delivery of exceptional client outcomes, maintaining the highest standards of legal excellence, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

As the firm's Chief Legal Officer, you will provide strategic legal leadership while maintaining your own client files. You will mentor and develop our talented legal team, oversee professional standards and risk management, and work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team to support the continued success and growth of one of Queensland's largest family law firms.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will:

Lead the firm's legal practice as Chief Legal Officer,



ensuring compliance with all professional and regulatory obligations.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring and supervision to lawyers across the firm, promoting legal excellence and consistent client outcomes.

Maintain a personal file load while supporting lawyers with complex matters, litigation strategy and high-risk files.

Drive legal performance by supporting lawyers to achieve productivity, utilisation and financial targets while maintaining exceptional client service.

Oversee legal risk management, file quality, compliance and professional standards across the practice.

Lead legal capability through coaching, training, succession planning and professional development initiatives.

Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to contribute to strategic planning, business growth and organisational success.

Strengthen the firm's reputation by developing referral relationships, representing the firm within the profession and contributing to business development initiatives.

Promote a collaborative, accountable and high-performing legal culture where people are empowered to succeed.

Who You Are:

You are an accomplished family law leader with a passion for developing people, achieving exceptional client outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of legal practice

To be successful in this role, you will bring:





Admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

A current Queensland Principal Practising Certificate.

Accreditation as a Nationally Accredited Mediator (is desirable).

Significant senior leadership experience within family law.

Exceptional technical expertise across all aspects of family law, including complex parenting and property matters.

Proven experience mentoring, coaching and developing lawyers at all stages of their careers.

Robust commercial awareness and an understanding of legal practice performance, productivity and profitability.

Outstanding communication, relationship-building and leadership skills.

A collaborative leadership style with a genuine commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.

The ability to travel between offices and support the Legal Practice Managers.
