About the program
IPM Engineering group is recruiting for a major digital rail signalling upgrade program being delivered across the South East Queensland passenger rail network. The program is modernising train control to improve network safety, reliability and capacity, and is one of the most significant rail technology deployments currently under way in Australia.
The program's Project Management Office is already established and operating as the central coordination function for governance, planning, risk, change, reporting, financial management and information management. We are appointing four senior specialists to operate, mature and continuously improve that function, embedded within the client's project office in the Brisbane CBD. A hybrid arrangement is available, with a minimum of three days per week on site.
The role
Own the detailed delivery schedule for a major sector of a digital rail signalling program.
Reporting to the PMO Lead, you will develop, maintain and analyse the detailed schedules for Sector 1 North. This is a hands-on Primavera P6 role for someone who takes real ownership of schedule integrity — the accuracy of progress reporting, the credibility of the critical path, and the early identification of delay before it becomes a problem.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and maintain detailed schedules in Primavera P6 in accordance with program standards.
- Update schedules using progress information from delivery teams, contractors and stakeholders.
- Conduct schedule status reviews and maintain schedule data integrity.
- Perform critical path, float, variance and trend analysis.
- Identify schedule risks, emerging delays and potential interface impacts.
- Support development of mitigation, acceleration and recovery schedules.
- Undertake schedule quality assessments and compliance reviews, validating logic, relationships, constraints and baseline compliance.
- Produce schedule reports, dashboards and performance metrics.
- Support schedule risk modelling, what-if analysis and scenario planning.
- Provide scheduling support for testing, commissioning, possession and operational readiness activities.
- Assist with forensic schedule analysis and delay assessment where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of scheduling processes, tools and reporting.
What you'll bring
Essential
- Demonstrated planning and scheduling experience on major infrastructure projects or programs.
- Advanced Primavera P6 skills.
- Sound understanding of Critical Path Methodology.
- Experience preparing schedule reporting and performance analysis for senior audiences.
- Strong analytical,
problem-solving and communication skills, with high attention to detail.
- Highly regarded
- Rail scheduling experience, particularly around possessions, testing and commissioning.
- Exposure to digital signalling or train control deployment.
- Schedule risk analysis experience.
- Forensic delay analysis or extension of time assessment experience.
What's on offer
- A long-term engagement — initial term to August 2029, with two further 12-month options.
- A hybrid working arrangement: a minimum of three days per week in the client's Brisbane CBD project office, with the balance worked remotely.
- Full-time role with four weeks' annual leave.
- A genuinely significant program: digital train control deployment at national scale.
- Embedded in the client's team, working directly with program leadership rather than at arm's length.
- Competitive contract rates, negotiable based on experience.
- The backing of the IPM Engineering group, with continuity of work across our wider portfolio.
