Position Overview
Sound AV is a specialist audio-visual integration company focused on delivering high-quality AV design, installation, commissioning and support services across commercial, education, government, corporate and construction environments. We are seeking a reliable and technically capable Senior Audio Visual Installation Technician to support the delivery of professional AV installation works across Sound AV projects and service activities. This role is responsible for installing, connecting, testing and assisting with the handover of audio-visual systems, while also overseeing the onsite installation team to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, programmers, electricians, other technicians and subcontractors to coordinate onsite activities, support installation quality and ensure the onsite team understands the required scope, priorities and project standards.
Duties

- Install, relocate, modify and fit off AV equipment in accordance with project scope, drawings, site conditions and manufacturer requirements.
- Mount displays, projectors, cameras, speakers, microphones, touch panels, room booking panels, control interfaces and other AV equipment so they are secure, level, correctly positioned and neatly presented.
- Pull, label, dress and terminate AV cabling, including HDMI, USB, audio, control, speaker, communication/network and other project-specific cable types.
- Complete equipment rack fit-off, rack dressing, patching, labelling, cable management and power connection coordination as required.
- Read and interpret AV schematics, mark-ups, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, floor plans, rack layouts and cable schedules.
- Carry out soldering, connector termination, wall plate fit-off and equipment interconnection tasks to a professional standard.
- Assist with testing of cables, signal paths, displays, audio systems, conferencing equipment, control interfaces and other AV system components.
- Support commissioning activities by completing installation checks, identifying faults, resolving basic technical issues and escalating more complex issues when required.
- Diagnose installation-related faults and undertake practical corrective actions in consultation with the project manager, engineer or programmer.
- Maintain, adjust or repair AV equipment where required and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and Sound AV procedures.
- Provide clear feedback to project managers and engineers where site conditions, drawings or design documentation require clarification or adjustment.
- Complete service call tasks as required, including fault investigation, equipment replacement, minor repairs and client support.
- Record labour hours, materials used, completed works, defects, variations and outstanding items accurately through Sound AV’s systems or project processes.
- Keep work areas clean, organised and safe during installation works and complete site clean-up at the end of each shift or work stage.
- Assist with basic client training and system handover where required, including showing users how to operate installed AV systems.
- Perform other duties reasonably incidental to AV installation, service, commissioning and project delivery activities.
Required Skills and Experience
• Proven experience in AV installation, commercial technology installation, electrical/data installation support or a similar technical field role, with the ability to oversee onsite installation teams..
- Current driver’s licence.
- Current Construction Induction Card / White Card.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, AV schematics, equipment layouts and site documentation.
- Practical understanding of commercial AV systems, including displays, projectors, speakers,
microphones, video conferencing systems, signal distribution, racks and control interfaces.
- Experience with cable installation, equipment mounting, terminations, rack fit-off and basic system testing.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work through installation issues in a practical and methodical way.
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with clients, builders, consultants, project managers and other trades.
- Robust attention to detail and pride in neat, reliable and well-presented installation work.
- Good time management skills and the ability to work across multiple tasks, rooms or project areas as required.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
- Professional attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.
Preferred / Desirable Experience
• AVIXA Recognised AV Technologist, CTS certification or working towards CTS.
- Vendor training or certifications from manufacturers such as Logitech, Yealink, Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, Crestron, Extron, AMX, Poly, Sennheiser, Bose, Samsung, LG or similar.
- EWP, Working at Heights, First Aid or other relevant site tickets.
- ACMA cabling registration or experience working alongside licensed cablers and electricians.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Webex rooms and unified communications systems.
- Experience with commercial fit-out, construction, education, government or corporate AV projects.
- Familiarity with Aconex, Procore, HammerTech, Simpro or similar construction/project management platforms.
- Basic understanding of AV control systems, DSP configuration, networking fundamentals or commissioning
