Pirate Life Brewing was founded in 2014 on a five-day journey across the Nullarbor Plain. We landed in Adelaide, established a brewery, and spent the next seven years building a brand. The Role
We're looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Functions & Events Manager to work with our South Melbourne team. Up to 38 hours available for the right candidate, with potential to go permanent.
This role is accountable for driving the financial success of the venue's functions and events business by growing revenue, maximising profitability, and delivering exceptional guest experiences. You'll take ownership of the events pipeline, convert new business opportunities, optimise function performance and work closely with the venue Leadership Team to consistently deliver operational excellence.
This role has scope to manage additional venues in the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Own and grow the venue's functions and events revenue, delivering year-on-year sales growth.
Drive new business through proactive sales, networking, client relationship management and repeat business opportunities.
Manage the end-to-end functions journey, from enquiry and quotation through to execution and post-event follow-up.
Be accountable for achieving revenue, profitability and working with budget targets across the functions business.
Monitor and report on key commercial metrics including revenue, conversion rates, average spend, booking platform and event profitability.
Identify opportunities to maximise revenue through premium offerings, menu upgrades, beverage packages and upselling initiatives.
Work collaboratively with the Venue Manager to support overall site financial performance and contribute to achieving venue sales and profit targets.
Lead the planning and execution of high-quality functions and events that consistently deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Partner with Front of House, Kitchen and Operations teams to ensure seamless execution of every event.
Work closely with the Head Chef to develop commercially successful function menus that balance customer expectations with profitability.
Build strong relationships with corporate clients,
local businesses and community groups to increase venue awareness and generate new revenue opportunities.
Maintain high standards of compliance, safety and operational excellence across all events.
What You'll Bring
Minimum two years' experience in a Functions, Events or Hospitality Management role.
Demonstrated success growing function or venue revenue and achieving commercial targets.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to understand budgets, margins, costs and financial performance.
Proven ability to build lasting client relationships and convert enquiries into confirmed bookings.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
Robust communication and stakeholder management skills across clients, suppliers and internal teams.
A customer-first mindset, balanced with sound commercial decision-making.
Passion for hospitality, food, beverage and creating memorable experiences.
Experience using function or event management software (such as Function Tracker) is desirable.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
