We are currently seeking a Store Manager for our store in Doncaster

Our vision

We inspire readers, empower lifelong learners and create memorable reading experiences.

Who are we?

At QBD Books, we believe in the power of stories - to connect, to inspire and to change lives.

As Australia’s largest Australian-owned book retailer, we are on a mission to make bookselling an art again. We are looking for a passionate, curious and customer-loving Store Manager to lead one of our store teams and help bring that mission to life.

Whether you are a lifelong reader, an experienced retailer, a natural people leader or someone who simply loves connecting customers with the right story, this is your chance to be part of something meaningful.

Our Awesome Customer Experience program is at the heart of how we trade. It is how we create genuine customer connections, showcase the magic of books and leave every customer feeling welcomed, understood and inspired.

About the role

As Store Manager, you will lead the day-to-day performance, culture and operations of your store.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will coach and develop your team, drive sales and customer experience, maintain strong store standards and help build a confident, capable and customer-focused team.

You will be supported by your Store Support Manager and Regional Manager, and you will also take part in QBD’s structured 18-month Leadership Program, designed to help Store Managers build practical leadership capability across coaching, communication, recruitment, onboarding, team development and performance conversations.

This is a full-time role, generally worked Tuesday to Saturday, with roster details confirmed as part of the recruitment process.

What you will do

In this role, you will:

- lead, motivate and develop a passionate store team;
- champion QBD’s Awesome Customer Experience program and coach your team to deliver warm, confident and proactive service;
- drive store performance, including sales, conversion,

average transaction value and customer experience outcomes;
- use store data, daily planning tools and practical coaching to help your team understand what good looks like;
- support recruitment, onboarding, coaching and performance conversations, with support from your Store Support Manager and Regional Manager;
- build a positive, inclusive and accountable team culture where people feel supported to learn, grow and do great work;
- maintain strong visual merchandising, stock, replenishment, housekeeping and operational standards;
- support education, events, campaigns and local store initiatives;
- communicate clearly with your team and with Support Office, Operations, Education and Regional leadership teams;
- lead a one-team culture that puts customer experience, team wellbeing and secure work practices first.

Our perfect candidate

- put the customer first and understand that great retail is built on human connection;
- love leading teams and helping people grow;
- communicate clearly, warmly and confidently;
- are commercially aware and motivated by sales, service and store performance;
- stay curious about books, customers, people and better ways of working;
- embrace feedback and know that good coaching helps everyone improve;
- are proactive, organised and calm under pressure;
- enjoy creating a store environment that feels welcoming, inclusive and inspiring;
- can balance customer experience, operations, stock, people leadership and commercial outcomes.

You do not need to know every book on the shelf. You do need to be curious, customer-focused and excited about helping people find their next great read.

What we offer

- incentive opportunities;
- structured leadership development through QBD’s 18-month Leadership Program;
- support from your Store Support Manager, Regional Manager and wider QBD network;
- a generous staff discount on all products;
- the opportunity to lead a passionate team of booksellers;
- the chance to help shape memorable customer experiences every day.
