As an Operations Analyst (OPA), you will work within a thematic or geographic team to analyse information, identify opportunities and risks, and communicate information which informs tactical, operational and strategic-level decision making. As an OPA, you will contribute to all stages of the intelligence cycle using analytical techniques and processes to enable team outcomes; ensure the security and compliance of operational activity; and ensure the quality of intelligence product. This is a highly collaborative role in which you will work alongside a range of specialised contributors to collectively generate impact against the Australian Intelligence Missions (AIMs).

These are Canberra-based positions, and in limited cases may include opportunity for domestic or overseas travel.

A Level 4 Operations Analyst will:

- Undertake tasks of moderate complexity, under general direction and guidance from an established management chain;
- Undertake foundational and where necessary, supplementary training, to develop and maintain skills to deliver impact against operational requirements;
- Gain exposure and experience across a range of capabilities, and provide support in line with organisational priorities. Generally, these may include analytical capabilities, collection management capabilities, requirements management capabilities, and broader coordination functions. Proficiency across the breadth of capabilities will be achieved through ongoing exposure, experience and training;
- Contribute to organisational capability development; and




- Actively engage in supporting and building a psychologically safe team environment.

Role responsibilities

Responsibilities and tasks could include, but are not limited to the following:

- Contribute to the coordination of activities which drive operations, based on the Australian Government's priorities and requirements;
- Assist with the production of intelligence product that meets Australian Government priorities and requirements;
- Apply analytical tradecraft, critical analysis, and critical thinking in support of existing operational lines of effort, and the identification of new operational lines of effort;
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on existing thematic or geographic areas of focus based on Australian Government priorities and requirements;
- Maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and customers;
- Contribute to the identification and mitigation of risks, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations; and
- Provide administrative support as required, encompassing written and verbal briefings, visit support, and financial compliance requirements.

Education and qualification requirements

One or more of the following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded:

- Demonstrated proficiency in research, analysis and critical thinking;
- Working knowledge of relevant geographic, thematic or technical subjects;
- Understanding of techniques or technology that assist the collection, mining, manipulation, fusing, exploitation and visualisation of data;
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or work/life experience;
- Transferrable work background (e.g. other government agencies with an operational remit, private industry, National Intelligence Community, military, police, and other intelligence related roles); and
- Other relevant skills/expertise (e.g. foreign language expertise).
