Black & White Engineering is seeking a highly capable Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of complex, high-value projects and contribute to the continued growth of our Australian and APAC business. This role will play a key part in the design and delivery of technically challenging projects, with a strong focus on mission critical facilities and data centres. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will provide technical leadership, coordinate project delivery activities, engage with clients and stakeholders, and mentor junior engineers while helping drive engineering excellence across the business.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Project Delivery
Deliver high-quality mechanical (MEP) design solutions across all project stages.
Support end-to-end project delivery, ensuring outputs meet client requirements, timelines, and budget constraints.
Undertake detailed design calculations, system sizing, and technical documentation.
Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant standards and codes.
Coordinate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
Technical
Excellence
Provide technical input and guidance within project teams.
Ensure designs align with industry best practices and local regulatory requirements (e.g. BCA, SS standards).
Contribute to innovation in engineering solutions, particularly in mission-critical/data centre environments.
Review and check design work produced by junior engineers. Client & Stakeholder Management
Support client engagement on projects, maintaining strong working relationships.
Attend client meetings, workshops, and technical discussions.
Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Act as a reliable technical point of contact for assigned projects.
Team Support & Devel
Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates in their career development.
Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Assist with internal resource planning and coordination as required.
Commercial
Awareness
Support project managers in monitoring project scope, timelines, and cost controls.
Assist in preparing technical inputs for proposals and bid submissions.
Maintain awareness of project commercial drivers and contribute to efficient delivery. Essential
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Approximately 5-10+ years' experience in mechanical building services design within a consulting engineering environment.
Demonstrated experience delivering complex projects from concept design through construction.
Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
Experience with industry-standard design software, including Revit, AutoCAD, IES VE, or similar platforms.
Strong understanding of Australian standards, NCC/BCA requirements, and relevant industry codes.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and coordination skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary project teams. Desirable
Experience in Data Centres, Mission Critical Facilities, Healthcare, Commercial or High-Tech Facilities.
Chartered Engineer status (CPEng, RPEQ, NER, or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership.
Experience leading project packages or small project teams.
Exposure to sustainable design principles and energy-efficient building systems. What’s In It For You
