About the role

Black Cat Syndicate Limited is seeking an experienced Senior Mine Engineer - Open Pit to join our mining operations team.

This is a full-time position based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

As Senior Mine Engineer, you will play a crucial strategic and operational role in overseeing the design, planning and optimisation of our open pit mining operations.

This position is integral to ensuring safe, efficient and sustainable mining practices across our facilities, and you will report to senior management with direct influence over key operational decisions and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

- Design and optimise open pit mining operations, including pit geometry, slope stability assessments and extraction sequencing
- Develop and implement mining plans that maximise resource recovery while maintaining safety and environmental compliance
- Conduct geotechnical assessments and manage slope risk mitigation strategies across active mining areas
- Oversee mine engineering projects from concept through to completion, managing budgets, timelines and technical specifications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geology, production and maintenance to ensure operational excellence
- Monitor and analyse mining productivity metrics, recommending process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Ensure all mining operations comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards and company policies
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff and contribute to continuous professional development within the team
- Conduct engineering reviews and audits of mining equipment and systems to identify risks and optimise performance
- Participate in feasibility studies and strategic planning for future mining operations and capital investments

What we're looking for

- Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution
- Portfolio of experience in open pit mining operations, with significant hands-on expertise in mine design and planning




- Proven expertise in pit optimisation, slope stability analysis and geotechnical engineering principles
- Strong knowledge of mining software packages including pit design, production scheduling and mine modelling tools
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects and engineering initiatives from inception to delivery
- In-depth understanding of Australian mining regulations, safety standards and environmental compliance frameworks
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously and make sound technical decisions
- Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring and developing junior engineering staff
- Professional membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent professional body is highly desirable
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced mining environment and adapt to changing operational requirements
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake site-based fieldwork as required
