We're seeking an experienced Development Engineering professional to step into a contract Team Leader position through to January. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on keeping a busy team running smoothly and lifting the quality of technical output across the board.
The role
Reporting to the Manager, you'll take day-to-day ownership of a team of 4-5 junior engineers. Your focus will be on:
- Allocating and prioritising work across the team to keep assessments and referrals moving
- Providing peer review and technical guidance, mentoring junior staff and lifting the consistency and quality of their work
- Supporting the delivery of a small number of service review objectives (with the Manager working alongside you on this piece)
This is very much a leadership and quality-assurance role rather than a heavy caseload position (although you will still have some technical workload) - your value is in developing the team, keeping standards high,
and making sure work is allocated sensibly.
About you
- Background in Development Engineering, ideally within a Local Government setting (or consultancy)
- Comfortable reviewing others' work and giving clear, constructive feedback
- Organised and pragmatic when it comes to allocating and prioritising a team's workload
- A steady, supportive presence for junior engineers finding their feet
Council experience in a Development Engineering environment is strongly preferred, but we're open to candidates from closely aligned backgrounds who can demonstrate the right technical and leadership foundations.
The offer
A contract engagement through to January, with the prospect to lead a capable junior team and make a genuine impact on how the function operates.
