An opportunity exists for a skilled, results driven and self-motivated Train Operations Coordinator to join its professional operations team in Brisbane. Reporting to the Planning & Logistics Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of all Watco train operations and train support services.

The position acts as liaison between Track Access Providers, Customers and Watco Team Members on operational matters. Critically, this role is also the point of contact for the Company outside of business hours. This position forms part of a team that mans the Watco Operations Centre (WOC) on a 24 hour, seven days per week, 365 days per year basis, working shift work organised through a rolling roster.

About the Role

Preparation of train consists in Watco's train management program.

Submit consist lists for train pathway allocation.

Facilitate Train Driver Crew Pre-Start briefing and forms completion.

Undertake train pathway planning (out-of-business hours as required).

Monitor train journeys against train plans and coordinate early management advice and undertaking remedial action when issues arise.

Liaise with Operation Zone Managers, train drivers, scheduling and maintenance personnel on all operational matters.

Monitors crew shifts against fatigue rules and coordinate crew changeovers as required.

Maintain operations logs, prepare and issue shift operations reports.

Undertake formal shift handovers.

Collation and archiving of WOC operational records, reports and information.





Activate Watco Emergency Response Plans when required.

Initiate Incident Reports and Rolling stock Equipment failure reports as required.

Ensure compliance with HSEQ policies and procedures.

Act with leadership and authority in the coordination of operations providing advice to and guidance locomotive drivers, management and external parties as required.

What You’ll Need

Ability to effectively communicate instructions, directions, processes, procedures, safety rules and regulations to rail traffic crews, external stakeholders and others in written, oral, diagrammatic and schedule form.

Ability to make independent judgments using sound reasoning skills and knowledge base.

Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise and process multiple tasks with effective decision making and problem resolving skills.

Ability to work independently and to complete shift work on a rotating roster basis.

Education and Experience

Minimum of 2 years’ experience within logistics or related field.

Possess and/or acquire sufficient experience or equivalent working knowledge and understanding of rail operations including, but not limited to, risk management, train services, administration, customer service, locomotive and wagon management.
