Aboriginal Specialist Outreach Caseworker
The Aboriginal Women and Children's Crisis Service (AWCCS) is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community-controlled organisation supporting Aboriginal women and children escaping domestic and family violence. AWCCS provides culturally safe, trauma-informed casework, crisis accommodation and outreach support to help women and children regain safety, stability, wellbeing and connection to culture and community.

About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Aboriginal Specialist Outreach Caseworker to join our team. Key duties will include:
- Providing culturally safe, trauma-informed crisis response, intake, risk assessment and safety planning for Aboriginal women and children experiencing domestic and family violence
- Developing and implementing client-centred case plans addressing safety, housing, legal needs, health, finances, education, culture and wellbeing
- Advocating with housing providers, courts, police, Centrelink, health, legal and other services, including arranging and accompanying clients to appointments
- Providing age-appropriate, trauma-informed support for children impacted by domestic and family violence, including therapeutic play and cultural learning activities
- Delivering outreach casework in the community or clients' homes where assessed as safe and appropriate, across the Inner West and broader Sydney
- Delivering post-exit monitoring and support focused on sustained safety, tenancy sustainment, economic independence and community connection
- Facilitating culturally grounded yarning circles and capacity-building workshops within community settings
- Managing a dynamic caseload and prioritising work in line with client risk and organisational needs
- Participating in an on-call roster as required, escalating risk and seeking guidance promptly
- Maintaining accurate, timely case notes, risk assessments, safety plans and client records on CIMS, consistent with policy and funding requirements
- Building relationships with Aboriginal services, housing providers, legal services, schools and community organisations to support client outcomes
- Representing AWCCS at relevant interagency, network and community forums
Requirements
We are seeking a candidate who:
- Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman — this is an identified position (see below)
- Holds a qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Welfare or a related field (minimum Certificate IV; Diploma or higher preferred)
- Has demonstrated experience providing domestic and family violence case management with Aboriginal women and children in crisis accommodation and/or outreach settings
- Has a strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally safe practice and the ability to work in an Aboriginal community-controlled context
- Has solid knowledge of risk assessment, safety planning, housing pathways and referral networks
- Understands child protection and mandatory reporting requirements and can work collaboratively with statutory agencies
- Has written and verbal communication, documentation and time management skills
- Holds a current NSW driver licence, or is working towards one, and can undertake outreach and home visiting where assessed as safe and appropriate
- Holds, or can obtain, a current Working With Children Check and National Criminal History Check
- Holds a current First Aid and CPR certificate
Highly desirable:
- Has experience working in an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation
- Has group facilitation skills (for example, women's groups, children's activities, parenting support)
- Has local knowledge of the Inner West and Redfern communities, services and networks
