Cranbrook School is seeking enthusiastic and committed Basketball Coaches to join our dynamic Sports team and support the development of students across our Junior and Senior School basketball programs.

Sports Coaches play a significant role in developing and implementing training and coaching programs that grow individual students and teams in their physical skills, decision-making abilities and positive sporting behaviours. Coaches provide students with the opportunity to successfully participate in school-based competitions and beyond, while ensuring they experience enjoyable, challenging and rewarding sporting experiences.

The successful candidate will have a passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes, with the ability to develop students’ technical skills, game understanding and positive sporting behaviours while creating an inclusive and supportive sporting setting.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Head of Basketball, the Basketball Coach will be responsible for planning and delivering age and skill appropriate coaching sessions, supporting team development, providing match day coaching and contributing to the overall success of Cranbrook School’s Basketball program.

The successful applicant will have strong knowledge of high-performance basketball environments, the ability to develop advanced technical and tactical skills, and a commitment to supporting young female athletes to achieve their sporting potential. One of the positions we are seeking to appoint is an experienced Basketball Coach to lead and support the Open 1sts/2nds Girls teams.

Responsibilities of the Basketball Coach include:

- Planning and delivering engaging, structured and purposeful Basketball coaching sessions
- Developing students’ technical skills, tactical understanding, decision-making and game awareness
- Supporting individual player development and team performance through effective coaching practices
- Providing match day coaching and tactical support during fixtures
- Promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment, respect and positive sporting behaviours
- Creating an environment where all students feel valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential
- Supporting the broader Basketball program and contributing positively to the School’s sporting culture





Casual positions are available with hours varying depending on training sessions, fixtures and sporting commitments.

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced Basketball Coach who is passionate about developing young athletes through positive coaching, mentoring and relationship building.

You will have experience coaching competitive basketball environments and the ability to engage students across a broad range of ages and abilities. You will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, tactical understanding and the ability to create a positive team culture focused on development, commitment and performance.

The successful candidate will be collaborative, organised and committed to supporting the values and vision of Cranbrook School.

SELECTION CRITERIA

- Previous experience coaching Basketball, preferably within a school, representative, association or high-performance environment
- Experience coaching senior-level basketball, particularly girls’ basketball, will be highly regarded
- Coaching qualifications in Basketball or a related sporting discipline will be highly regarded
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems and tactical development
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, age and skill appropriate coaching programs
- Ability to develop individual players and support team performance
- Ability to inspire, motivate and encourage students to achieve their sporting potential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider School community
- Ability to provide a positive role model and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment and respect
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage training sessions and fixtures effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively within a sporting program and contribute to broader School sporting initiatives
- A level of mobility that supports the ability to respond to a first aid or behavioural incident




- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
- A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- A demonstrated understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
- Experience working in a school environment will be highly regarded.
