Plumbing Operations & Estimating Manager
4-Day Work Week | Vehicle | Hybrid Office & On-Site Role | Leadership Opportunity
Laurence Plumbing Group
Are you an experienced maintenance plumber looking for the next step in your career — but don't necessarily want to give up being on the tools altogether?
Maybe you're already a Leading Hand, Supervisor or Estimator. Or perhaps you're an experienced maintenance plumber who has naturally become the person others turn to for advice, problem solving and getting jobs organised.
Laurence Plumbing Group is looking for the right person to take the next step with us.
We're looking for an experienced plumbing professional to join our team in a hybrid Operations, Estimating & On-Site role.
This is not purely an office job, and it's not simply another maintenance plumber position.
You'll work across our operations, estimating and field teams — helping us quote work accurately, coordinate day-to-day operations, support our plumbers and clients, while still getting out on site and remaining actively involved in the technical side of the business.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who wants to grow into a key leadership position within Laurence Plumbing Group.
About Laurence Plumbing Group
Laurence Plumbing Group is a well-established Melbourne plumbing business specialising in B2B commercial facilities plumbing maintenance, preventative maintenance and plumbing infrastructure services.
We work across Melbourne and Victoria supporting a broad range of commercial and facilities-management clients.
We're proud of the reputation we've built for being reliable, professional and delivering quality outcomes — but we're equally proud of the team behind it.
Our philosophy is pretty simple:
Do what is right. Own what you do. Look after your team and your clients.
As the business continues to grow, we're looking for someone who shares those values and wants to help us shape the next stage of Laurence Plumbing Group.
The Role
This is a genuinely varied position combining operations, estimating, client communication and some hands-on plumbing work.
Your maintenance plumbing background will be extremely important.
You'll understand what actually happens on site — how long jobs take, what materials are required, how to diagnose difficult faults, what can go wrong and, importantly, how to communicate that information clearly to both plumbers and clients.
While a significant part of the role will involve estimating, planning and coordinating works, you'll still be an active part of our field operations.
Depending on what's happening within the business, a typical week could include:
- Reviewing incoming maintenance and project opportunities
- Preparing estimates, quotations and detailed scopes of works
- Reviewing site reports, photos and recommendations from our field team
- Providing technical support to plumbers in the field
- Assisting with scheduling and allocation of labour
- Planning labour, materials, subcontractors and equipment with our office manager
- Following up outstanding quotes and opportunities
- Communicating directly with clients regarding proposed and ongoing works
- Attending site meetings, inspections and pre-starts
- Carrying out site inspections to accurately scope and quote complex works
- Working on the tools when required, particularly on complex, technical or high-priority maintenance jobs
- Attending emergency and reactive plumbing callouts when required
- Supporting the team on larger or more challenging jobs
- Assisting with fault finding and diagnosis on site
- Stepping in to support field operations during busy periods
- Reviewing completed works to ensure quality and profitability
- Identifying opportunities for preventative maintenance and additional works
- Working with management to improve systems and processes
- Assisting with procurement and supplier relationships
- Helping mentor and develop members of the plumbing team
- Taking greater responsibility for day-to-day operations as you develop within the role
The balance between office and field work will change depending on the needs of the business.
Some days you'll be preparing quotes and coordinating the team. Other days you'll be boots-on-the-ground helping solve a difficult plumbing problem.
That's exactly how we want the role to work.
Who We're Looking For
We're not necessarily looking for someone who has spent the last ten years sitting behind a desk estimating plumbing projects.
We're looking for someone who understands plumbing because they've done it.
Ideally, you've spent significant time working in commercial and maintenance plumbing and you're ready to use that knowledge in a broader role — while still being happy to pull the tools out when the situation calls for it.
You might currently be a:
- Senior Maintenance Plumber
- Leading Hand
- Plumbing Supervisor
- Plumbing Estimator
- Maintenance Supervisor
- Service Manager
- Operations Coordinator
Or you may simply be a very experienced plumber who's ready to take the next step in their career.
You'll ideally bring:
- Strong commercial and/or facilities maintenance plumbing experience
- Current Victorian plumbing registration/licensing relevant to the role
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Strong hands-on plumbing capability
- A sound understanding of plumbing systems and compliance requirements
- The ability to accurately estimate labour and materials
- Positive computer and administrative skills
- Strong written communication and report-writing ability
- Confidence communicating with clients, suppliers and tradespeople
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- Commercial awareness and an understanding that good work also needs to be profitable
- The ability to prioritise multiple jobs and competing demands
- A willingness to attend emergency and reactive works when required
- A calm approach when things don't go exactly to plan
- A genuine desire to support and develop other people
Most importantly, you'll be someone who takes ownership.
If a client has an urgent issue, a plumber needs technical support or a job simply needs someone experienced to step in and get it sorted, you'll be comfortable taking the lead.
What We Can Offer You
We want this to be a role that someone can build a long-term career around.
You'll receive:
- 4-day working week – enjoy a long weekend every week
- Competitive salary package based on experience
- Take-home company vehicle
- Phone or phone allowance
- Uniform
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Genuine leadership and career progression opportunities
- A varied role combining office, site and hands-on work
- Adaptable working arrangements where possible
- Team activities.
- Supportive, down-to-earth team environment
- Autonomy to make decisions and improve how we operate
- Direct involvement in the future growth of the business
We don't want someone to simply fill a position.
We're looking for someone who can become an important part of Laurence Plumbing Group and, over time, take greater ownership of our operations.
Why This Role Is Different
This is an opportunity to take everything you've learnt as a plumber and use it to help lead the work — without completely leaving the tools behind.
You'll still have opportunities to work on site, diagnose problems and get involved in technically challenging jobs.
But you'll also start applying that experience more broadly — developing scopes, estimating work, supporting plumbers, coordinating jobs, communicating with clients and helping run the operation.
You'll have the opportunity to influence how we work, improve systems and processes, develop our team and help grow the maintenance side of the business.
It's a role for someone who can be just as comfortable talking to a client or preparing a quote as they are arriving on site and helping the team solve a problem.
And you'll do it while working a four-day week.
Location
Our office is located in Bayswater, Victoria, with our work predominantly across Melbourne and Victoria.
The role will involve a combination of office-based work, client meetings, site visits and hands-on plumbing work.
Due to the nature of our maintenance business, there will also be a requirement to assist with emergency and after-hours callouts when required.
Ready for Your Next Step?
If you're an experienced maintenance plumber who's ready to take on more responsibility across operations, estimating and leadership — while still staying connected to the tools and the field — we'd like to hear from you.
You don't need to tick every box.
If you've got strong plumbing knowledge, good people skills, take pride in what you do and believe you can grow into this position, apply and have a conversation with us.
Tell us a little about yourself, your maintenance plumbing experience and why you're ready for the next stage of your career.
