Join the security team at The University of Queensland's Gatton Campus and help protect a welcoming, diverse and unique rural university community.
We are establishing an ongoing pool of suitably qualified Casual Security Officers to support UQ Gatton's 24/7 security operations.
Depending on operational requirements, some successful applicants may progress to appointment and training immediately, while others may be contacted as opportunities arise throughout the year.
Casual shifts may be offered following completion of the required training to cover planned and unplanned staff leave, major events and peak operational periods.
Please note that inclusion in the casual pool does not guarantee appointment, a minimum number of hours or regular shifts.
Work availability will vary throughout the year, and some shifts may be offered at short notice.
About This Opportunity As a Casual Security Officer, you will provide professional and responsive security services across UQ's Gatton Campus.
The Gatton security team supports a 24/7 operation, with officers responding to incidents, completing campus patrols, securing buildings, assisting staff, students and visitors, and supporting emergency responses.
Gatton operates with smaller shift teams, so you will need to be comfortable working independently, exercising sound judgement and remaining connected with central security operations at St Lucia.
Key responsibilities include:
Responding to alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies and other incidents
Conducting campus patrols and securing University buildings and rural grounds
Providing access to authorised personnel
Responding professionally to enquiries and concerns from staff, students and visitors
Escalating urgent or high-priority matters to the Security Supervisor
Supporting the enforcement of parking and traffic regulations
Conducting preliminary investigations as directed
Preparing clear, detailed and accurate incident reports
Performing other reasonable duties as directed by the security leadership team
About You
You will be a calm, reliable and professional security officer who can confidently make decisions and work with minimal supervision.
To be eligible, you must hold:
A current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations HLTAID011
Provide First Aid HLTAID009
Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
A current Queensland manual open driver licence
You will also demonstrate:
The ability to work independently within a 24/7 operational environment
Sound judgement and confident decision-making
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Professionalism, tact and restraint when managing challenging situations
Experience responding to emergency or operational incidents
Confidence using security monitoring systems
The ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain appropriate records
A genuine commitment to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment
Significant Training Requirement Successful applicants must be available to attend an initial five-week period of full-time training.
Following completion of training, any work offered will be casual and based on operational requirements.
The training requirement does not mean that ongoing full-time hours will be available.
Successful candidates will be required to complete background checks, including verification of their right to work in Australia and a criminal history check You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
