We are seeking an experienced and proactive
QHSE Officer
to support and strengthen our Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental systems while working closely with operational teams to drive a culture of compliance, accountability and continuous improvement.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the QHSE Officer will be responsible for maintaining and continually improving APS's Integrated Management System (IMS) and supporting all departments to achieve operational excellence.
The successful candidate will spend time both on the production floor and in the office, ensuring our systems are practical, effective, and embedded into daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and continually improve APS's ISO ****, ISO ***** and ISO ***** management systems.
Plan, conduct and report internal audits.
Coordinate external certification and customer audits.
Investigate incidents, non-conformances and customer complaints using structured root cause analysis.
Develop, implement and monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Review and improve policies, procedures, work instructions and controlled documentation.
Maintain risk registers, environmental aspects, hazard registers and compliance obligations.
Facilitate toolbox talks,
safety meetings and management reviews.
Monitor quality and safety KPIs and prepare monthly management reports.
Support supplier evaluations, customer quality requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and compliance audits.
Deliver QHSE inductions and awareness training.
Promote a positive safety culture and coach supervisors and employees in best practice.
Work collaboratively with Production, Sales, Scheduling, Logistics and Maintenance to improve business processes.
Essential Requirements
Applicants
must
demonstrate:
Minimum 5 years' experience
in a Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) role within manufacturing, engineering, steel processing or heavy industry.
Lead Auditor qualification
in one or more of the following:
ISO **** Lead Auditor
ISO ***** Lead Auditor
ISO ***** Lead Auditor
Demonstrated experience maintaining and improving certified Integrated Management Systems.
Strong understanding of Australian WHS and environmental legislation.
Experience conducting internal and external audits.
Proven experience managing NCRs, CAPA, risk assessments and incident investigations.
Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
High attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Highly Desirable
Qualifications in Quality, Safety, Environmental Management or Engineering.
Experience within steel manufacturing, fabrication, mining, engineering or industrial operations.
Experience with electronic management systems such as Skytrust or similar QHSE software.
Experience facilitating Management Reviews and analysing operational KPIs.
Incident investigation training.
Return to Work Coordinator qualification (desirable).
