RPS has an opportunity within our Environmental Planning & Assessment team for an experienced
Senior / Principal Environmental Consultant
based in
Perth
.
This role will contribute to our team of environmental scientists, botanists and GIS experts to deliver environmental impact assessment and approvals, with a strong focus on preparing environmental impact assessment documents in accordance with the requirements of State and Commonwealth legislation.
We are seeking a highly experienced environmental professional with broad environmental approvals and compliance delivery experience.
You will lead the delivery of approvals for land development, infrastructure, basic raw materials and renewables projects.
You will have significant project experience and a comprehensive understanding of State and Commonwealth legislation, along with the ability to provide strategic advice to clients and contribute to business growth.
This client-facing role will suit a person with strong communication and problem-solving skills, experience in full-stage delivery of EIA approvals, and established relationships with regulatory authorities such as EPA, DWER, DBCA, DMIRS and DEECCW.
You will be working with like-minded professionals and recognised industry leaders, delivering strategic environmental assessments on some of the State's most exciting and iconic projects.
Key areas of responsibility
Technically led projects, including providing advice and preparing high-quality impact assessment and regulatory approval documentation
Lead and deliver environmental planning and approvals projects across infrastructure and development sectors
Coordinate with our Water, Earth Science, and Marine teams
Undertake due diligence investigations,
environmental management plans, and environmental risk assessments
Manage project delivery, coordination, budgets, and commercial performance as appropriate to level
Prepare proposals, tenders, and strategic inputs for business development
Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to growing and developing the client base
Work alongside senior leaders to identify new business opportunities
Mentor, coach, and support team members to build capability and engagement
Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards
Contribute to a cooperative, high-performing team culture
About you
You will hold a tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related field and have:
7+ years' professional experience in a similar senior role, with principal-level candidates bringing stronger leadership and business development capability
Strong client-facing, project management and stakeholder engagement skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong knowledge of Commonwealth and WA legislation and approval processes
Well-developed skills in coordinating multidisciplinary studies
Project advocacy skills and the ability to provide trusted strategic advice
Established consulting, regulatory, urban development and infrastructure networks will be highly regarded
For principal-level candidates,
demonstrated experience in mentoring staff, managing project financials and contributing to business development will be highly valued
