Monsoon Aquatics is seeking a dedicated and motivated Aquarist to join our team in Cairns.
As one of Australia's leading marine ornamental aquaculture and export businesses, Monsoon Aquatics supplies premium-quality marine fish, corals and invertebrates to customers throughout Australia and around the world.
This is a unique opportunity to work with an incredible diversity of marine life while developing your skills alongside an experienced and passionate team.
This is a hands-on role working primarily with marine fish, while also caring for corals and marine invertebrates.
Every day is different, and you'll play an important role in maintaining the health and wellbeing of our livestock while supporting our export and domestic operations.
Weekend work, early starts and occasional evening shifts will be required as part of the role.
About the Role
As an Aquarist, you'll be responsible for the daily husbandry and care of marine livestock while ensuring our systems operate to the highest standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
Daily husbandry and care of marine fish, corals and marine invertebrates
Monitoring and maintaining aquarium life support systems
Conducting water quality testing and maintaining accurate records
Feeding livestock according to established husbandry protocols
Monitoring livestock health and identifying pests, diseases and other health issues
Receiving, acclimating and processing incoming livestock
Preparing livestock for domestic and international shipment
Maintaining clean,



organised and biosecure work areas
Assisting with the continual improvement of husbandry practices and operational systems
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about marine life, has excellent attention to detail and enjoys working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Skills & Experience
Strong knowledge of marine fish and reef aquarium husbandry
Aquarium keeping experience, either professionally or as an experienced hobbyist
Ability to identify a range of marine fish species (knowledge of corals and invertebrates is highly regarded)
Solid observational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a cooperative team
Medium rigid and/or forklift licence advantageous
Personal Qualities
Reliable, organised and punctual
Positive attitude with a strong work ethic
Physically fit and comfortable performing manual tasks
Able to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic workplace
Takes initiative and is always looking for ways to improve systems and processes
