We are looking for an experienced and motivated Level 2 IT Technician to join our Perth team.
This is a home-based role combining remote technical support with regular field support at client sites throughout the Perth metropolitan area.
THE ROLE
As a Level 2 IT Technician, you will play an significant role in the ongoing management, troubleshooting and improvement of our clients' IT environments.
This is not simply a helpdesk position.
You will work hands-on with client infrastructure, networks, cloud services and business systems, providing both remote and onsite support across the Perth region.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and support client network infrastructure and system environments
Provide Level 2 technical support remotely and onsite
Independently diagnose and resolve technical issues across remote client locations
Deploy, configure and maintain hardware, software and cloud services
Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues
Take ownership of incidents and follow them through to resolution
Liaise with clients to provide high-quality service and clear communication
Escalate complex issues appropriately, with clear documentation of troubleshooting completed
Maintain accurate technical documentation, client records and solution notes
Work collaboratively with the broader service desk, projects and consulting teams
What We're Looking For
This role requires an experienced Level 2 technician who can independently diagnose and resolve technical issues across remote client sites.
You must be comfortable taking ownership of unfamiliar environments, working through issues methodically and escalating only after appropriate troubleshooting has been completed.
Essential Technical Experience:
At least four years of hands-on experience in a Level 2 technical support role, preferably within a Managed Service Provider
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot remote sites, including diagnosing issues where documentation or onsite assistance may be limited
Strong practical experience supporting and troubleshooting:
- Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and file services
- Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, Teams, SharePoint and user access issues
- Business networks, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing, wireless networks and internet connectivity
- Firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, remote-access VPNs and network security policies
- Workstations, laptops, printers, peripheral devices and common business applications
Ability to use logs, monitoring tools, command-line utilities and structured troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes
Experience troubleshooting issues across multiple layers, including endpoints, servers, networks, cloud platforms and third-party services
Ability to assess whether an issue is local, network-related, cloud-related, vendor-related or caused by configuration
Experience working with remote monitoring and management, ticketing and documentation platforms
Ability to clearly document findings, actions taken, resolutions and recommended next steps
Additional Requirements:
Based in Perth and available to travel to client sites throughout the metropolitan area
Current Australian driver's licence and reliable personal transport
Australian working rights
Experience within an MSP environment is highly regarded
Relevant Microsoft, networking, cloud or security certifications are desirable but not essential
A good sense of humour and alignment with the soma technology group values
